2020 SIDEWINDER GT
good pointand on this note... You would have to have a real idiot dealer if he/she told Yamaha/Cat that you used a different oil...

Yes.. for sure there is a lot experienced riders and performance junkie's that love putting the good stuff on there sleds for that little more Zip, and are kind enough to share their findings of what works the best and not so best, that's what makes this site so awesome, and yes this tread might of got of track a little but nobody was trying to mislead anybody or submit useless info, and i'm almost sure if you had a new Winder and you put tons and tons of miles/kms on it over a 2-3 year period and had a engine problem you would be asking Yamaha about honoring there 20yr/160000 km engine warranty, lol, it would be the first thing out of your mouth to a Yamaha Rep, but good luck with that with a Napa filter screwed onto the motor. To the OP..... I think your question about aftermarket replacements to the OEM parts was a good one. I think it would have ended up being somewhat of a punch list of things that could or even should be replaced. Thumbs up!
However, and I mean this with no disrespect and this is not a personal attack. I gotta say I'm not quite sure I've ever seen a thread so badly Hijacked with the most irrelevant and useless information.
Now, if you had originally asked how can I service my sled to make it last 99,000 miles only to have it blow up shortly thereafter so I can submit an engine claim, then put this brand new engine in a chassis that's been completely replaced or repaired 100 times over!
See what I'm getting at here? Who gives a rats @SS about the 100,000 mile warranty! Most of us would have to live to be 150 years old to put that claim in!
So just put the products in your sled that just plain work and are proven. Isn't that why we are posting here in the first place! This site has a collection of experienced riders from all walks of life that go out and try new parts and set ups just so the less experienced owner can benefit from this knowledge right away. Take advantage of this information and enjoy your sled knowing it will perform to the fullest and you will be prepared to make that sled last..... well........ NOT 100,000 miles!
I will bring up something else. The oil you choose MIGHT make your sled faster or slower. Haven't seen it documented for a Sidewinder but have for other Yamahas. Do your research. Its all here somewhere.

I believe Knapp bought up the fact that often NASCAR cars run 0 weight oil (especially in qualifying) to extract maximum performance from their engines. It may not be the oil that makes the engine last the longest, but it does allow the engine to output maximum HP (at least for a short period of time). So choose wisely and be aware of the pros (an cons) of any oil you choose. Do not equate higher viscosity with better lubrication. OR, do not equate lower viscosity with poor lubrication. If you have time for casual reading about oil, check out https://540ratblog.wordpress.com/

I'd like to add that I've been using Yamalube since day one but I just changed oil with it and it cost close to $55. I'm thinking next year it will be Walmart and Mobil 1 with a Yamaha/Cat filter for around $30 and 100,000 mile warranty be damned! Frugal, not cheap guys! Retirement means fixed income and every penny counts!

Thank you Turboflash for posting that website review on oil, very interesting stuff, while reading through Rats info I found a test done on a Yamalube oil product which he rated very low, also interesting that the Amsoil signature series oil rate very high on his scale which is very good info, Rat also does not trust the JASO oil rating out of Japan which I also found interesting, good info thanks
