I'm working out the details to get my sled home and would like some informed opinions from those that have had Winders as to what aftermarket parts work better for the OEM substitution. I don't know what kind of shape the upper chaincase gear is in or the secondary rollers so what have been the better replacements for those 2 items? I plan to put a bellypan guard in at some point and I'll do all the major things like engine and chaincase oils, tack the chain adjuster bolt and possibly the rollover valve delete as soon as I get my hands on it. As for engine oil filters, what's everyone's preference? Yamaha or is there a better alternative? I've seen Rockerdans build and his use of the K&N filter and I checked the Wix website but they don't have a listing for the Sidewinder. I'll likely be using Amsoil as its readily available to me from my cousin. That's should get me started and I'd like to have parts on hand so I can get at this asap.

There's all kinds of aftermarket replacement parts and even more opinions on them! Most of which are just fine as replacements to OEM and you'll almost never have any issue with any of them be it, choice of oil, oil filters, air filter, chain case lube, belts, primary/secondary rollers and then springs, helix, clutching the list goes on and on. This may be the most readily modified recreational vehicle ever produced with a thousand choices available for upgrades. As far as the every day wear item upgrades go....
I like;
Mobil 1 5-30
K&N oil filter KN-147
K&N air filter KN SN-2570
ULTIMAX Belt XS-825
Spectro Syn-Sno syntheti chain case lube (make sure you put AT LEAST 12 oz. In there!)
Thunder Products primary and secondary rollers are a must
Can't go wrong with;
Dalton helix
Dalton springs
Dalton weights or Thunder Products heavy hitters
Not to mention exhaust systems, GPS, LED lighting, luggage, 4th wheel kits, tracks, windshields, primaries.... The list goes on.

Read some of the threads on studding, choice of skis, and the inevitable...... The elephant in the room, TUNES! well by now your head is spinning, your wallet is lighter and your half way to divorce court, so I'll let you ponder and read the subsequent posts on the topic!

My engine warranty is 20 yrs or 160,000km's on my new srx so long as I use Yamalube oil and filter kit. Not sure if yours is new or not but check your paperwork,

My 2020 ltx has the warranty as all them do. Just have to read the fine print in order you dont void that warranty. But any tune you do or modifications made to your engine that 20yr/160000km warranty is GONE !
I'm glad I didn't tune mine as I had a turbo go at 800miles last season, these are great engines but definitely not bulletproof.

Just be careful, if this sled your getting is new or used with warranty remaining and you start using aftermarket oil filters and oil in your machine, don't expect Yamaha to honor their warranty if you ever have a engine failure, a Yamaha costumer that bought a new Grizzly on the atv forum used a aftermarket oil filter for his first oil change, the filter was compatible and met OEM specs, he had a engine failure, Yamaha denied the warranty based on the aftermarket filter, $7000 for a new engine from Yamaha, choose wisely.

There are many parts that are an improvement over OEM. Warranty is only denied when it is proven the aftermarket substitution is what caused the failure. If it didn't and you get denied, it's time for a new dealer.

Boy is this a can of worms, LOL, Dealers do not deny warranty claims their Reps do, dealers just provide info and pictures if requested, a Yamaha seal mech would have to provide that info if that dealer has one, most do, and yes they would have to rule out the aftermarket part while the costumer waits,, using OEM engine parts avoids any of the claims denial unless there were other factors at play like a tune or submerged in salt water just to name a few.

I will add that the engine warranty claim of 20yr/160000km the testing that Yamaha did on the Winder engine to come up with that figure was done with Yamalube oil and filters products, not Wix or K&N, Mobile 1 , Napa or Amsoil products to name a few, that's why Yamaha will NOT guarantee nothing but Yamalube products for their engines, so again... choose wisely when under warranty!!

Some dealer's will go above and beyond to get you covered under warranty, but most won't. So I would say choosing the right dealer is way more important than the oil you use.

Yes.. some dealers do go above and beyond for their costumers the way it should be, then there is other Stealers that just want your money and want nothing more to do with you if you have troubles, if by chance you have a engine failure under warranty and your running a Wix filter and Napa oil in a Winder with warranty your dealers Rep is going to FROWN on that before approving a warranty claim even though it meets OEM specs, TPAY.. I would be running Yamalube in that new winder of yours if you were wise!! LOL

Not happening AMSOIL all the way. I've seen some of the testing done on YamaLube it's not all that great. Not only that they need to prove that the oil or the filter was the reason for motor failure. Anybody with any kind of sense knows that the oil is usually not the problem. I know Yamaha recommends YamaLube and it will definitely help your warranty claim but I don't think it is a necessity.

The Japs at Yamaha must of did some kind testing to think Yamalube is sufficient to warrant 20year/160000 km engine warranty, I guess what the hell would they know, they should of contacted you.

Got er home Friday evening. A bit of a curfluffle with coordinating with the salesman,the delivery driver and my work for the time off but made it happen. Quick question about the secondary rollers. Mine don't have any flat spots on them,none that I've found at least, but the rollers are a little sloppy on the pins. Not to the point where they're wearing into one another but they're far from tight. What I mean by tight is something along the lines of how a flyweight fits onto a pin. Maybe the rollers aren't supposed to fit that snug but to me the seem like they should be tighter. I know a picture or even a small video shot would help explain what I'm saying bit I guess what I need to know is what are the tolerances between the rollers and pins?
