I'm 61 years old and will soon be getting my SS checks. Today my Wife said that I'm riding my SW much faster than my 1200 Doo especially through the tight trails. She said the last couple years she noticed I was slowing down a bit and she felt like she was pushing me at times. Now she feels like she has to catch me. I told her the SW was the Viagra of snowmobiles. Truthfully I can ride this sled faster through the trails than any sled I have owned in some time. It steers so precise and the chassis is very predictable along with a very smooth engine. I have Pilot 6.9's with shaper bars in the center. Maybe this sled makes me feel younger who knows? Either way I'm enjoying it more than I ever thought I would.

Joe, hard to ride the winder in the really tight trails. All I do is look into the corners anticipating a long enough straight coming out to achieve an arm stretching run of boost.........

This sled has turned into a crazy mind game! Lol!

Glad to hear your liking you sled Joe.

Not only is the winder fast but silky smooth power delivery. I found my buddies 16 1200 power to be Jerky after riding my Winder. I'd recommend keeping your wife off your sled if you want to keep it. LOL.

Joe....I was blown away by the mogul eating ability of the LE(fox qs3r shocks). The front end does not care what type of mogul, big or small, it does not transmit to handlebar like my doo front end does. Just takes them all in stride. And even the tight twisties of Muskoka were tamed quickly with the winder. I could stand up and just pound across moguls, and with my 1200 iTC Its too hard to modulate, so you have to drop to standard mode, which is a slug...grrrr...

Its amazing how really good shocks can make a 100lb heavier sled feel ultra light and easy to maneuver through the trails, and suck up all the junk.

Then onto the bigger trails, like the "Baysville express" as we call it...wow! This is where the power is sick, the TD powertrail tune had my hands, wrists and arms sore! My neck was hurting by days end after running many lakes later in the day (lake o bays, raven, st noras, kushog, boshkung)....3/4 throttle you cruise along side the 800s and they are all WOT(LOL) and then I can crack it WOT and leave the 800s like they hit their brakes. My god this is fun. My cat was same, but could only do that once or twice as it would blow a belt. I ran the 8dn on all the lakes and checked temps several times, all just barely warm to touch. No heat at all under this hood or clutch area, but that cat would fry your finger in seconds running lakes like this around 100mph for many many many miles constantly.

I think im more impressed with the trail-ability of this sled then I ever dreamed I would be. Yesterday was the first time I got time on trails that were all a mix of what I ride, and can say with certainty this is nothing like my cat turbo was, this is just all around fun. And the attention it brings on, any gas station or restaurant people come ask about "the sidewinder". And when they hear the TD SQ muffler they want to know how fast always.lol

Once I get this clutching figured out, it will be the nail in coffin for me finally...I still worry about belts, but think things will be fine.....the new Hi Torque rollers are doing nicely, and i removed the stock ones with one large flat spot.

I noticed today how cool my clutches are compared to my Wife's 1200. You can hold your hand on the primary as long as you want but not the 1200. Since there is no heat involved I'm thinking the belt issue will be an easy fix. Guys with 850 Doo's are complaining about hot clutches and they are already putting in vents and cutting open stuff for air flow. The more I ride this sled the more I like it and I'm really glad I bought it. I felt bad selling my 1200 so soon but I had them since 2009 and it was time for a change.

I hear ya.....I have not been on dootalk much at all, just to answer PMs only really. This SW has my undivided attention here, and now that I KNOW its a trail sled I can totally live with, its quite likely I will end up with one.

A snapped belt is totally different issue then worn belts from either heat or poor alignment. Something odd going on there with secondary not opening enough for the primary, and snap. I think everyone jumped on the bandwagon saying it was coil bind(which makes sense) but too many are snapping belts far before coil bind would even occur(if it were occuring) since it wont bottom out the torsion spring until max geared out speed, and guys are snapping them at speeds well below 122 or so.

then there is the guys who cant get top speeds over 110-113 or so, that makes no sense on ice...With 3 new rollers in this one, one roller touched and other 2 spun, so something is off with helix or roller pin location. I have heard some with dalton helix claim same thing, so it could be pins? But the cast helix would be what I would think is off. Oddly, after a few runs on the new rollers, they now all touch and run equally.

I want to slap this Viper secondary on the SW for kicks here, I would take a old school yam secondary with pucks all day long for the belt life of my apex....

did you figure out the lag? i think many are puzzled why there is so much difference in the top performance of these sleds. i spent a bit of time today looking at spec sheets and can't find any aha differences. i haven't broken a belt yet and will look at everything again when my helix comes in.

Are you still running those tuna skis? If so get rid of them because they are holding back the best part of your sled. I have 6.9 Pilots with shaper bars and the sled handles amazing. Definitely better than any of my 1200 Doo's.

Joe did you go with 6 or 7.5" shaper? The round 7.5" from doo work well too, just wondering how the shaper feels. Its amazing how this chassie can work well with a large deep carbide like a shaper and not feel heavy at the bars.

I went with the 7.5's Dan. So far I like them, my steering is very responsive. I will know for sure when I get to ride in better conditions. My only concern with shapers in the past is at times they may grab and give you some ski lift or be a bit too aggressive. I haven't noticed that yet but like I said I need more saddle time. I'm sure the round bars will work just as well in most conditions also.

HI Dan, you would definitely recommend going with higher priced sled for the shock package?
I really like orange/gray color scheme better but would take handling and ride over color any day, lol.
Had the blue/white scheme back in the SRX days which is still pretty cool looking.

Hey Dan,
What are you running for clutch kit? What about your clutch offset? Just curious I am running the 8JP belt wrapped 3-1, helix shimmed, hauck secondary rollers, stock clutching, and notice my clutches are fairly hot when doing some WOT runs, can only touch them for like 15 seconds. Track is a 1.6" ice cobra and seem to only be hitting 106mph, could be the conditions of the lake also. Can trail ride and clutches are only warm to the touch. Was up in south river on the weekend messing around on the lake, haven't blown a belt yet but think about it everytime I'm ripping across the lake.
