went to delavan lake radar run today with my viper and a customers sled that has my lake race turbo on it..... this is a stock 05 rx-1 chassic that has a speed track and ice picks, my lake race turbo set-up on it, with a free flowing exhaust, 10-1 low compression pistons, and carrillo rods for piece of mind when running higher boost levels. the sled is not lightened at all, and the best part is you can install the quiet exhaust, lower the boost to 7.5 lbs, change the track to a trail studded track, fill with premium pump gas and go trail riding on monday. the base line modified viper ran 110 mph last week, this week the viper ran 112mph, the rx-1 turbo ran 131.7 mph last week, and this week the rx-1 turbo ran 134mph with no changes from last week, so it is safe to say the track was 2 mph faster than the track we were on last week. we increased the boost alittle and added some weight to the clutch, ran 138mph and was bouncing off the rev limiter, we added more weight in the clutch, (were running 370 grams now) and ran 140 mph. next week we will adjust the gear, (you could hear the rpms start building at the end of the track showing it was out of gear), add some more weight to the clutch, and turn the boost up abit more. we started the day at 19 lbs...335hp, and now were around 22 lbs...360hp, plenty more left in it, well just keep bringing it up slowly. special thanks to bill morrelli, he is the guy who i asked to drive the sled when i got there, my normal driver couldn't make it, and bill seemed foolish enough...lol. i have to tell you, not many people can hop on a 335hp sled and drive it as well as bill did, by the end of the day he was handling 360hp and running 140 mph... thanks again bill, and also thanks to scott kenaway, scott helped us changing the clutching set-ups, and saved my new jacket from looking like my old jacket. lol. scott also ran acouple times down the track and ran 138 mph getting in and out of the throttle accouple of times. its incredible to think that a full bodied stock weight sled that is trailable, can be made into a weekend warrior in acouple of hours, run 140 mph in 1000 ft, get changed back to trail form in acouple of more hours, and ride down the trail getting as high as 18 mpg. four strokes are the future, there capabilitys are far greater than initially expected, and they continue to improve with each passing year. i have to hand it to yamaha motor corp for making the rx-1 4 stroke... at first i compared it to the arctic cat thunder cat for its incredible base from which to extract major amounts of horsepower, and still be trailible. but with the bullet proof engine they have delivered, and the boost were able to run through it, we can take it to a level that is far above and beyond the 2 strokes. jeff
