So what ski will work with the Yamaha carbide? I just purchased a set of Yamaha specific carbides and when installing them I found a big gash on the bottom of inside part of the stock ski. I don't want to waste the money I spent on the carbides, about $80, so is there another ski that I can use that will accept the Yamaha carbide?

I would just pick up another stock yamaha ski. They are plentiful and cheap. Any 4 stroke Yamaha standard or mountain ski will work. Just swap over the ski loop from your old ski if the new ski has a differnent color loop.

agreed. best option other than reselling carbides, inturn going aftermarket.

So there isn't an aftermarket ski made that uses the yamaha carbide? Thought it might be an opportunity to get a better ski.

Don't think that there is? The ski that might be close is an SLP Powder Pro. Do some research on this one to be sure.

What are you looking for your skis to do that the Yamaha ones don't do for you now? Skis are like shoes. Very personal and there millions of opinions out there on what a good ski is. Besides personal taste, sled suspension set up and snow conditions also play a big part of it. If you have searched skis here on TY you will see lots of differing onions on skis.

IMO, I think the Yamaha skis get a bad rap on here and other sites. I have run them for years with 6" Stud Boy Shaper bars and thought they handled very well in most conditions with little darting issues. The times I had tried other skis was looking for more float by going to a wider ski or looking for lighter steering effort on the RS sled that I had. I am only running Pilots on my Phazer now as the sled came with a ripped stock ski and I had these lying around after playing with them on my RS. They have a light steering effort but push a bit in powder and deep snow. Pilot skis are supposed to limit darting, but I have had darting with them on occasion. If I ever replace them, I will probably go with a set of Yamaha Mountain skis which I have run before. They are cheap and real durable with an aggressive keel and lots of float. The Mountain skis are real similar to the SLP Powder Pros I mentioned above.

Do some research and try to consider the average opinions of what skis people like and why. There will be extremes for sure. Good luck with whatever you decide. G.B.

Thanks for the reply. I figured because the Yami ski has such a bad rap I thought now would be an opportunity to change them out. I only rode the sled in the spring for a short period and never really had time to assess the skis and have been rebuilding and modifying it over the summer. It's replacing a Crossfire that was sold in the spring. The Phazer is going to be on the trail 75% of the time with the rest off trail. Our snow conditions are usually about 2-3ft of snow with rugged terrain and lots of lake running. What I need is a good non-darting ski that performs well on the trail but also floats nice when off trail. If the stock ski can do this I'll just replace the one.

Forgot to ask, do the Yamaha mountain skis use the same carbides as the stock skis?

The MTX skis use the same carbides. I have a set for sale including all mounting hardware if you are interested ( I'm close to Winnipeg)

I'll let you know on the skis. I'm watching a set of brand new skis on Ebay and will see were the biding goes.

How much did you need for the skis? I was busy at work and missed out on the bidding.

I have a set of SLT & from talking to their tech people, been told only carbides that fit are Woodys + their own brand....
