This come with it when you buy your skid, Two wrenches, hold one turn the other till it crimps

When you drill front (corner) holes (under engine) you can notice that aluminium is too thick for these nuts. you need to make cut away on upper side of hole so you ensure good crimping (and also drill these holes tight enough for nuts)

I agree, in fact there are two layers of metal to go through for a total of what I roughly measure as 5mm.. The specs for the 14.73 long AVK A-L insert(rivnut) that they send with the kit, state that the material thickness range is up to 4.2mm. What that tells me is that they are simply not long enough. So, if you wish to stick to using rivnuts, or replace your falling out rivnuts, the answer is to get the next size longer, the 17.27 long rivnut which is good for up to 6.6mm material thickness. Fits in your original hole. I ordered a package of 25, part number 94020A387, from McMaster-Carr for roughly 14 dollars plus 4 dollars shipping. Order online.

You have to make sure you don't go into the second plate. I started my rivnut out a little so as not to crimp it in the second plate. As it crimped I pushed it in. Still holding so far.

I don't really know how you can avoid the second layer. The original rivet that you drilled out, held the steel cover plate to the aluminum frame behind. I would think the replacement RIVNUT should then be serving the same purpose. In fact, I would sooner have my rivnut bedded firmly in 5 mm of metal, than in 2.5 mm of metal, given the choice, which we have if we use longer rivnuts. And like I mentioned before, if that rivnut does not flare and form a flange in behind the metal, some people will have them eventually dropping out.
I hope these help you to see right installation..

it is definately the wrong nut for our thickness/application....the large wellnuts I used work great as a substitute though
