Guys i really really need some help.
this is going to be a long story.
At the end of last season i had some issues with the sled stalling out on me when comming down to an idle. the sled seemed to run fine and never gave me any type of problems other then the idle. i would have to feather the gas to keep it running but the strange thing was this would not happen all the time and it was not showing any codes.
One day i could ride it all day with no issues the next day every time i came to an intersection i would stall.
I ended up bringing the sled into the dealer and they could not duplicate my problem but they did adjust the idle, they said it was idleing too low.
i picked up the sled the next weekend and drove it for 2 day with no issues. the 3rd day it started the idleing problem again. I was able to ride it all day but at every time i came to a stop it was a project to keep the sled running.
The next weekend i rode the sled all day with intermittent idleing issues. The following day i had no issues but blew my track and ended my season. took out the front heat exchanger too.
I brought the sled home for the season and proceded to tear it down and try to address my idleing issue.
I spoke with my dealer and ended up replacing my TPS.
After the TPS change I started the sled and ran it till it was good and hot (220 degrees) 6-8 times over the course of 2 weeks with no issues. I put the sled away for the season.
I started the sled up a week ago and ran it till it was good and hot with no issues. I started it again earlier this week, same thing, no issues. I started the sled last night and after running for about 4-5 min it was stalling/running at 1000-900 rpm yellow engine light flashing when this is happening but no codes.
Tonight i started the sled and ran it for about 5 mins. it started idleing screwy again. this time i shut off the sled and restarted it. It was still idleing screwy so i shut it down and went into diagnostic mode to check the TPS. the TPS read 16 closed throttle and 95 Wide open throttle. I restarted the sled and could not get the sled to idle bad. It ran great with no idle issues for about 10 min till it got too hot and i shut it down.
started it later with no idleing issues.
I just cant seem to track down the problem and know it is going to haunt me this season
Also i can tell you that when it is not ideling properly i have tried to adjust the idle screw and it does not seem to make any difference where i adjust it to. It makes little to no change. The sled smells to me like it may be running rich but i dont have another to compare it to. I have not noticed any changes in mileage/fuel economy. not saying there isn't a change in mpg just saying i have not noticed one.
I dont know what to do. i am absolutely desperate at this point to get this issue resolved. any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Steven

Since you had the sled apart already I'm going to assume you inspected all of the exhaust, including the flex pipes. Mine would idle strange as yours but only when cold so slightly different senerio but there seems to be varying stories on what happens when the exhaust goes. Aside from that have you checked the coils on the plugs? Maybe a bad one that's going intermitently?

Hmmm, now thats a thinker.
You could try ruling out the easy stuff by doing the following
First, drain everything out of your fuel tank
Check your vaccum lines, including the airbox.
Check how much charge the battery has.
Fill it with at least 5-10L of fresh fuel
Then add some brand name fuel injector cleaner
Also, try some new spark plugs, CR10EK's for a few more hp.
Start it again, let the fuel and cleaner run through it for a bit, and dont touch the throttle until its been running for about 5 mins or until the mag side running board is warm. Rev it up a bunch of times and see if it does this, and if it keeps doing this and it seems to be getting better, then try the next say and so on until it goes away.
Maybe at one point you got bad gas or something. The fuel injector cleaner will take a while to clean the injectors.

Maybe the throttle cable is to tight?
Shut the sled off then re-start it with the bars turned all the way to the right,While it's running turn them all the way to the left and see if your engine light comes on or it idles funny.
Last thing i can think of is do a compression test. That will rule out a whole buch of things.

Thanks guys.
i recieved a PM with some good info on the diagnostic codes and that is where i am going to start. then i plan to move on to the wiring harness and connectors and electrical system.
I ran sea foam with the gas when the issue started last year with no change. but plan to try it again this year if needed.
I have just under 5000 miles on the sled and had the exhaust apart this summer to do the gaskets. I did not notice any issues with the exhaust as far as cracks go but to be honest i was not looking for them either.
I appreciate any and all info you guys have given.
Please keep it comming

ok so i have 7 fault codes showing in my diagnostic code history.
11-14-15-21-22-23-84
11=no normal signals recieved from the cylinder identification sensor
14=faulty intake air pressure sensor hose system
15= throttle position sensor open or short circuit detected.
21=coolant temp sensor open or short circuit detected.
22=intake temp sensor open or short circuited.
23=atmospheric pressure sensor open or short circuited.
84=TORS=detecting conditions for tors are satisfied
I am thinking most of these codes were form when i first got the sled working on it and detaching the air box and trying to run the sled etc etc.
the ones i am concerned about are 11-21-84
11 - seems like a potential problem that i need to look into a little deeper.
21- has me a concerned because i have never even touched the coolant temp sensor. will need to check that out.
84-I dont understand this at all. it says in my manual that detecting codes for tors are satisfied.
does this mean everything is ok or do i actually have a tors issue?
Do you guys think i should delete all codes and start fresh to see what i come up with for new codes? this is kinda what i think i should do.
any input is appreciated

with all those codes, it is no doubt a wiring issue. ecu plug is corroded or wiring harness is rubbed through somewhere.

I have to agree with that many codes, it's gota be a main harness somewhere. Check all the connections at the ECU and from each device back to the main harness. The tors could give you goofy idling but it wouldn't let you rev past 4000 I thought? Have to check on that.
As for the 84. You have an issue if it's throwing the code but it may be due to the harness issue as well. If you put light pressure (not pulling on the cable) to the throttle is there a 2mm or so gap between the back of the lever and the control part. In other words you should be able to move the throttle slightly with out pulling the cable at all.

I cleared all the codes and am going to start fresh. i dont know how long this sled keeps codes for. I am thinking that some of this stuff might be old codes that were never cleared. well thats what i am hoping anyway.
I ran the sled multiple times tonight with no idle issues. the idle bounces around a little but it normally stays with in 100 rpm of 1500.
No problem with throttle free play at all.
When i had things apart for maintenance this summer i looked over the wiring harness pretty well. But, it is possible i could have missed something.
My plan right now is to go back over the wiring harness and connectors and keep trying to get the sled to throw a code.
Thanks Again guys
Anyone know of any areas that are prone to problems on the wiring harness???

The only area that comes to mind would be the wiring around the battery. I only say thins because when you change the oil you have to get the battery tray out of the way and it's possible to mess up some wiring or maybe pinch a wire when reassembling. Just a wild guess but figured it may be a place to start.

I'm having the same problem but on a smaller scale. It happened about 3 times last year and I thought it was the TPS. Could you send me the diagnostic information so I can check for codes on my sled?

check around your throttle bodies<where your filter box is make sure there all on good could cause a condition in the air/fuel system even just ONE could throw it off causing the problems! never no WEIRD #*$&@ HAPPENS!!

Ok so after 3 days of digging around here is what i have come up with.
drained the fuel and added 2 gallons of fresh fuel with seafoam.
Checked as much of the wiring harness as i could with the motor in the sled. Everything i looked at looks good. no damage and no wear on the outside wrapping. Checked all connectors and found no corrosion or issues. applied dielectric grease to all connectors.
Pulled the plugs and inspected all the plugs. they all looked good. replaced with new plugs just to be safe.
Inspected all vacuum lines. everything looked good with no cracks, holes, wear,or disconnected lines.
Last but not least i found that one of my carb boots did not slide onto the throttle body properly and was pinched under the clamp. i fixed this and reassembled. just like tomanytoyz suggested.
I will be starting the sled tomorrow night and will post what i find then.
thanks to everyone for thier input so far.

Not to get your hopes up but That can definently give you the weired idling, the same thing happend to mine (the throttle body boot) didn't quite make it all the way on. I always inspected them too, must have been in a hurry or something. I did have some issues but I don't remember having codes from the ECU, just a strange idle. Thanks for reminding me of that incident. Gotta start writting these things down.
Keep up posted.
