I headed out with a few lads today and on our way back we stopped to say good-bye to one of them, I didn't shut off my sled but when I went to go my sled would not move, it made a noise like it was hitting a rev limiter or something?
I checked the dash and my warning/temp light was on and flashing?

The conditions were pretty good, lots of snow and about -13C so I don't believe it was an overheat issues?

I tried a few times to move forward but each time it would do this rev limiter, retard thing and would not move.
I then shut the sled off and let it sit about 5-10 seconds before restarting it, when I did it fired right up and drove away like nothing ever happened?

I rode approx another 25 miles to the clubhouse and it ran great the entire way never doing this again?

Any ideas, any worries?

Thanks.........Irv

ice?

we rode yesterday and i experience ice falling off tunnel and getting jammed against heat exchange - my sons nytro ice was worse than my phazer. if it happens again put it in reverse and see what comes out.

as mentioned could be TORS. i forget what engine safety they have in place for overheating. iirc if the sled idles for a couple minutes over a certain temp it will shut off. do they have a limiter program if the engine is hot? you could check the fault code and see what fault is was correct?

Sounds like the TORS

What is TORS exactly, this is my first Yamaha sled and this was only my third ride on it?

What would cause this to activate, was it more than likely just a clitch/fluke that this activated?

What can cause this?

Like stated above, conditons were great, lots of snow, plenty cold enough, fresh gas etc?

Why would shutting the machine off for a few seconds erase or clear this condition/limiter/code, was it just a fluke, should I be worried it will happen again?

Thanks ;)!

TORS mean Throttle Override System. It monitors where your throttle is at, compared to your carburetor. In the event that your throttle gets stuck wide open, it will cut back your sleds power. There should be a wire that you can unhook to bypass that system. I'm thinking it could have just been a glitch in the system.

TORS=Throttle Over Ride System. Usually a throttle cable that is adjusted a little too tight will give the system fits. The pics are for my Nytro but the test procedure is the same and the adjustment should be very close, the Vector may actually be a little less gap if I recall.

Sounds to me it was getting hot if the temp light was on because of the idleing then when you shut it down it cooled down enough to get going and keep it going I think I read somewhere on here there is a self protection on sleds but I could be wrong

My sled has done the same exact thing. It is the TORS. It is not overheating. The system is very sensitive. Mine will activate if I turn the bars all the way during a slow turn sometimes. The throtle cable is binding a tiny bit somewhere. I would not disable the system. It doesnt cause any damage when it activates. I don't have to shut my sled off. I just wait a few seconds and the code clears. If it is happening a lot, then reroute your throttle cable. It's usually not in the thumb flipper.

I have an 09 apex an that is what happen to me once. I stop for a couple minutes, when i when to go the sled would,nt move heat light was on, I shut sled off put some snow on running boards , and started sled back up no problem way i went.

I think the overheat protection is from it you start up your sled and let it idle too long it will actually shut off not just stop you from moving.

Ok . The question is why was the temp light on then. Is tors hook up to temp light or service engine soon light . I've had tors kick in before yes shut the key off it resets code but no temp light . Unless because of over heating the computer kicked in the tors is this possible?

They get hot VERY fast when idling, I have a temp gauge on my sled and amazed how it goes from 160 degrees up too 210 then sort of holds that for a little bit as the fan kicks on but more then a few minutes and I will get the hot light every time.

I think your isse was a TORS issue and you should familerize yourself on how to manually activate the tors by grabbing the throttle like shown above. The same lights you saw should come on and flash the same way.

I have had too many sensitive TORS systems on the viper, Rx1, and now apex that I bypassed it per the manual but just left it and run without TORS.

Thanks for the replies everyone, at this point I am not sure what would have caused it?

Like I mentioned above, it was plenty cold out and lots of snow.
I stopped/idled for maybe 45seconds to a minute before I tried to go, the bars were straight so no cable binding imo, when I went to go, that is when this happened.

If it was an overheat issue, how would shutting the sled off for 5-10 seconds cool it off, especially since the water pump will no onger be circulating water?

Not sure what to make of this, hopefully it doesn't happen again but if it does I will pay more attention to the lights on my dash and see exactly what is flashing?
