If you drove this last season, why not just change the slides when you pull the suspension out to service it? Takes only to remove 4 bolts and the suspension folds down and comes right out. ( After you remove the three alan head bolts from the shock dial)I have always removed the rear skids before each season just to get a better look at it, clean it, change the slides and such. If you're needing to change the slides while riding, then through one of the windows of the track is the best way as Tork descibed.

Welcome to TY....... :rocks:

On a related note, what is everyone's opinion on spending the extra $5 each for the "high performance" or "graphite impregnated" slides that advertise less running friction?

I'm especially interested in what some of you racers may have noticed about them. Pros and cons?

Thanks!

years ago when my cats ate hyfax for lunch I switched to the graphite. I didnt notice a speed difference. They didnt last any longer either. The conditions plays the major role. just my 2 cents

I am putting in the graphite THIN sliders,to allow more snow to come thru the windows....

also,Im going back to the drilled out idea, which i did many years....i think it is overal a great way to keep the plastic cooler...

Dan, I came across a thread over on Arcticchat.com (for curiosity) that an individual over there drilled several hundred tiny holes at an angle into his sliders and actually injected a special grease into each one. Depending the grease he used, he had varying degrees of success.

Seems like a lot of work and but it may have some validity to his claim of better performance and longevity of his slides.

Perhaps you would like to give this a try?

I once was cheap and bought the regular plastic sliders for both my Exciter and my Enticer. Melted them near all the way through on BOTH in under 100 miles - they were run at different times and conditions. I switched them both to graphite sliders and havent had to change them on either since. The Enticer doesn't get many miles lately, but the Exciter has seen probably about 10000 miles - they went on in '98. And before you say thats impossible, its an '87 Exciter, which had a very low approach angle - real easy on sliders compared to anything newer (all the newer Yam's have a very steep approach angle, which makes them real bad on sliders).

when the slides are new..."season" them with heat and cold cycles and you'll be amazed!

I agree with sj, I use regular "cheep sliders" and get 2000 to 4000 miles on them depending on the snow conditions I go out in. This is on Rx1's and Vmax's . I did have to open up the windows on the ripsaw.

Hey guys...

got some time to work on my skid today...got my fox wheel kit in and new thin graphite slides, which I drilled....see pics.

also, notice the shock anti rub kit...also installed a rear heat exchanger.

also, did the new flap....the rear bracket under the flap on our 06s needs to be bent down quite abit to make the 07 flap hang properly...as i said before, the brackets from 06 to 07 rtx are different, the 07 only has ONE bend while my 06 had two bends,so you need to flatten it out for the new flap but it works fine,no need to buy the new bracket for 07.

here are some pics...more pics soon as i get the hew nytro update/07 apex bars ....I opted to do this cause i dont want to wait any longer for the apex bars.. Iwill post more pics on the bar install and exactly what your options are if you dont want to wait for apex bars...If you can get nytro bars, and dont mind spending an extra 50 bucks, buy an 07 riser block for apex, and you will have a 07 setup..more pics to come on bars when riser comes in early next week.

PS: I just previewed the pics and they are mostly all out of order!...UGH,I APOLOGIZE GUYS...but you will get the idea of what order they go in,read the comments i added to each pic....
