I'm a little disappointed that my viper is slower than my Nytro. Top end, mid range, hole shot it doesn't make a difference. The nytro is a little faster everywhere. And the Nytro gets better fuel mileage too. It stacks up the same against my friends Nytro too. So it isn't like I have a super fast Nytro. I'm still very happy with it. I just wonder what the difference is.

I agree, my Viper is a bit slower then my Nytro. The Viper on hard packed has hit 102 but with a couple of inches of fresh snow it works hard to hit 85. I love this everything about this viper except top end. I run with 800 etec's and Turbo cats. We did a Saturday ride of Lake skipping. 100 miles of lake running. I was bringing up the rear all day. Most of the time I was at full throttle thought the poor thing was going to blow up.

It's got 1500 miles on it. I would expect it to be fully broke in by now.

My buddy still owns his xtx nytro with 12000 miles on it and he bought a viper xtx. Nytro crushes it everywhere. 600 backcountry doo with bigger track drives away with ease on viper. He is very dissapointed.

I knew the nitro would be faster. Its a Yamaha! The one really good thing about Yamaha sleds is efficiency. But from what I hear cat is a better handling and bump sled. Can not have it all.

Would you be able to get a video? I have yet to see a Viper vs Nytro xtx video.
A 600 Backcountry beats it??!! You sure there isnt something wrong? I killed my buddies backcountry the other day with my nytro which is pretty much stock.

I wish I could give you guys an answer to your problems, but it baffles me that some are fast and others are not. I have clutching done to my Nytro and my Viper (my own clutching) and they have spanked everything we've gone against...even other vipers. I would have to say everytime my son and I race, it's the Viper out front from take off, but from rolling the sleds are pretty even but the Nytro is a couple miles an hour faster after 95

I strongly suspect it is in clutching. After adding the 153 track clutching got very bad, putting Nytro 8FS weights in it and testing this weekend.

One thing to keep in mind is that the viper is specifically made to stay planted and be a fast trail sled. How your nytro is beating the viper on a holeshot kinda baffles me. The design of this chassis makes it so you have a sled that stays planted on the ground. It's amazing how much your speed slows down because of stiff suspension or added ski pressure which the viper has both of. The nytro has hardly any ski pressure and that's why they're a good top end sled in comparison to the viper. Time yourself riding the viper thru a specific trail and then do it on the nytro. I'm betting the viper is much faster that way. Straight line the nytros are a good fast sled but shouldn't really be able to holeshot a viper unless there are a lot of odds in it's favor

I fond on new cats if you pull up front limiter strap will see some gains. Does steer little harder but this was on a big heavy turbo sled so should be better on viper. Nos pro. Have you found that you have to squeeze the belt harder on viper compared to nitro? On cat clutches they are running a lot of secondary pressure. Was wondering on how yamaha clutches worked in comparison?

I have no proof to back it up but I strongly think its the belt. I have never been a fan of the harder compound Yamaha belts. I have always run Ultimax XS belts and have always gotten better performance out of them. Maybe Ulitmax will have one out for next year.
I think its the suspension design which uses the track as a large part of the suspension(floating arm) The amount of snow has a big effect on the shape of your track at speed. That shape if its ballooning will kill topend. Make your track tight and see. Suspension will suffer though.

The sled does seem sensitive to snow but at the same time I haven't owned a yamaha sled that will go through the snow like the viper will. It seems to get right up on top and float very easily. Broke trail today for 20 miles had 18" of fresh snow and my buddies with a nytro and skidoo xp said they were pushing hard to keep up and I felt as tho I was just cruising. We all switched off some and they were both impressed at how the viper just floats. Granted if you have 1500 miles on the sled and the nytro is beating it every time then yes there is certainly something going on with the viper. Clutching may be off, suspension could be holding it back, my biggest speed reduction experience was slide rails dragging bad! Lots of different factors and things to look for. On the plus side I can assure you that these sleds will do good top speeds once running right. Fastest I've seen mine now is 102 but that's only running around 1200 feet. If I had 1/2-3/4 mile I'm sure it will do 105+ as you can feel the sled still has a little bit of pull left in it.
X2 even my RTX gets up on top snow very easily and quick. That has nothing to do with top speed though. I can stay on top 4ft of Powder snow at 15mph easy. I got 104 mph speedo yesterday on river. Three times. Twice up and once down. Conditions here are very fast now.Hardpack everywhere. Whole new sled. Never owned a sled that changed so much with conditions. I believe a little more power will smooth things out. Next season!
