I own a 40th anniv. Apex GT and was wondering if anybody has had people that ride behind them complain of exhaust smell? I don't smell anything unusual at idle. I thought it was something during break in, but it hasn't changed. I don't burn oil and I get pretty good gas mileage. If I go easy on the throttle, I'm told it's not so bad, but I have a hard time with that. My wife rides my old '05 RX1 and I guess it has a more typical 4-stroke exhaust smell. Could I run some additive that could help? I ran a couple tanks of premium lately and it didn't have much effect.

Nope, haven't had any coolant loss either.

Try some two stroke oil in the gas. I really miss that smell. All the four strokes have a odor that just seems to bite on the nose a bit.

No it smells like an old hot rod when you hammer on it. Since they do not have a catalyic converter, you will get that smell. It is a little rich when you hammer on it at first. Thats just my thought though.

two-stoke oil in the gas will leave deposits on your valves, dont do that!!! 4x4 was probably joking, just didn't want you to try it,not knowing. Its definatley exhaust smell? Burning hyfax smells really bad, I can smelled it once on my buddies sled who was 2 sleds in front of me on a logging road.

What fuel are you running, 87, 91, 94? Try running some fuel from a different gas station, you never know?

It was a joke, but on a serious note it would be considerate to have a pump to inject 2 stroke oil into the exhaust pipe for the benefit of those following.

I've ran a bunch of different fuels from 87 at a store in the woods to 93 at Shell and Mobil. Nothings seemed to matter.

It's probably a bit rich. Is it possible to change that without adding a Power Commander or similar product? Is it set like that so when it's really fricken cold that it doesn't burn down like a 2 stroke?

Definitely not hyfax. I'm at 3875 miles on my stock Hyfax and still running  Not sure why, but my brother with his 06 Apex can hardly get 1K out of his Hyfax. Maybe it's all the roads he runs.

You know the only time last weekend that they said it was better was when I ran seafoam. I thought it might have been me actually chilling out on the throttle. I'm not sure I want to get into running an additive like that full time because of the cost. Unless, I can split a pint into 4 tank fulls or something. What about running Lukas Fuel Treatment? I've picked up enough gas mileage from that product to pay for itself.

One thing I should have pointed out was that I have an aftermarket exhaust. Would that really effect things that much?
