- 2013 Yamaha FX Nytro XTX 1.75
Hey all,
As the season, if you can call it that, is coming to an end for me, I decided to retire my beloved RX Warrior LE and snow-check a nytro xtx. I have a few questions that I hope someone can answer.
1) I'm 6'5" and about 3 pringles away from 340lbs w/o gear, and usually ride w/ a backpack with supplies, etc, so figure 355lbs or so. On my fiance's 2011 Phazer i launched a bit hard putting it on the trailer and put the studs through the tunnel extender, so I'm wondering what suspension mods I should plan on making. As for riding style, I'm old enough to be civil on a trail, and young enough to play off the trail when I can.
2) super charger or turbo? I know all about top end vs bottom end, etc, but want to hear the debate. Also, what brands, or should I stick with the Yamaha parts?
3) Any other chassis upgrades I should consider? I see a few things on SBM such as the tunnel closer kit: http://www.schmidtbrosmotorsports.com/y ... loser-kit/, is it important? Anything else?
4) Is 7.5gal gas enough? it seems a bit on the low end, especially considering the additional weight.
5) anything else? Any reasons I should consider a different sled? Has to be a x-over because I love to get off the trail and play when I can, and our trails are way too rough for a mountain sled.

Where are you from/ride?
The new XTX 1.75 is a good crossover sled, I've basically had to build the same thing. I will absolutely recommend new skis if you're going off trail at all. I have the 7" powderhounds with 6.5" shaper bars, while they work great, they push a fair bit for me when there is a good bit of soft snow on top of the trail. I'm about 250-275 with gear and pack, and being that you are a bit heavier I'd look into the 8" powderhounds, deeper keel, stiffer ski, and a little wider for more flotation. I kinda wish I went with the 8" myself.
Springs will more than likely be too soft for you, I have mine on the stiffest cam setting and find it about perfect for my aggressive off trail riding while still giving a decent on trail ride. I do believe that the newer XTX's have a stiffer spring stock now, so probably best to try it first.
As for the super/turbo debate I can't help you there, out of my budget, and I'm ok with the power of the sled still, the torque keeps me happy enough. I do wish I had a little extra fuel sometimes, but I've always kept up with my buddies and it only becomes a concern playing in the powder more. I have made up a small rack to carry an extra gallon of fuel on the tunnel for those occasions. The trail tank would solve this easily though, as would an SDR undertunnel exhaust and 2.5gal gas can.

Trail tank if you want 10 gallons, and def try the tuner skis to see how they work for you. I would go to starsuspensions.com and look into thier xtx kit cuz ive heard it does wonders for the xtx skid...... hope you love ur sled. id ride it before u decide on more power or not u might find it to be fine.

Being that you are 6.5 if you stand at all i would look in to a lakeeffect riser, they are top notch. And for sure a OFT relocate for the steering post, night and day difference. I'm 6.2 and have the relocate and a 6 in riser from lakeeffect with flat bars on and it is perfect for sit down or stand up. Good luck with the new sled. You will for sure love it.

Thanks for the replies guys.
To answer a question, I live a little west of Albany, NY.
I'll hold off on the boost, as suggested. And am probably going to be ordering a Mountain Mod Seat, the star suspension kit, and a trail tank. Should I have Star revalve/spring ths shocks as well?
I'm interested in seeing what the new tuner skis perform like, but i had 8" powder hounds on my RX Warrior and loved them. If the tuner skis don't perform, I'll likely put the stock skis on it and use the ph's on the nytro. Gave my warrior to my dad because he blew up his srx last year and he won't need the flotation because he's never off trail.. at least not on purpose.

Just a heads up, I got quoted $8600 on a 2012 XTX in black by a dealer in Albany, NY. If I wasn't deadset on the backcountry track, I'd own it. (quote on snow checking the 2013 was cheaper than buying the 2012 and putting the new track on it...). THis isn't the classifides section so I won't name the dealership, can pm me if interested.
What about closing off the tunnel on the xtx, should I look into that? Any suggested skid plate manufacturers? I know the yammy one is a bit weak.

You like to go off trail, I'd recomend Shmidt Bros comfort or stage 1 clutch kit. You'll save your new clutch some grief and you will love the smooth engagment off and on trail. Stock clutching likes to "trench" in deep snow due to harsh engagement and you will get longer belt life, great hole shots, and greatly reduced engine breaking. I will not own another Nytro with out one of these kits instaled. Give the Curve XS ski a look, another great improvement to the Nytro.
