Did you guys see this weeks episode yet? It compares all 4 and describes the pros and cons of all brands. They made the statement that since the new 2 smokes use such little oil that there is not a cost savings with a 4 stroke, since it is advised to change the oil in our 4 strokes each year. OK, really? What about this, there is no way that the new 2 smokes use less than 3 quarts a year. Plus 4 strokes run on 87.

Not to sure I agree with the shows speakers. Maybe the other brands kick in more $ or sponsorship?

IMO a 4 stroke doesn't really pay off until you get to 10,000 miles, at that time the maintenance and upgrades are cheaper than a new sled. You can obviously trade early or have some system with two strokes, but those guys tend to lose money haha.

This is of course only from an efficiency point of view. The other advantages of 4 strokes make them more enjoyable snowmobiles in my opinion, not just fuel economy.

13,600km and 13900 km's on both on our 08 vectors and neither of them have yet to have any engine problems. changed plugs 3 times and oil every spring. but really 50 dollar oil change, maybe 40 i forget. a gallon of the magical oil you got to run in 800 etecs is like 70 dollars a gallon, n then a rebuilld in 2 years. and we run 87 in our phazer, as we live in rural sask and have no place around to get premium. runs flawlessly and is at 5800km's

same here,07 phazer,24000km and 09 vector,20000km,engines are flawless, and in my case, both sleds have been dead reliable with little maintenance,i'm riding the vector again next season without worries but the phazer will be replaced by another vector or a venture for the wife, yamaha's are cheap to run for me,try that with a cpl 2 smoke, probably 2 rebuilds each, still dont understand how many people throw all that cash on 2 stokes, specially for trail riding

Way. With the crappy winters we've had lately, our 600 E-TEC can easily go all year on less than 3 quarts. The last gallon of genuine BRP semi synthetic oil we bought for $35 lasted 1300 miles. An annual oil change on our Vector costs at least $40 and gets done no matter how few miles it's ridden.

On the other hand, I'll probably never need to rebuild or replace the Vector engine. If we're lucky the E-TEC could make it close to 10k miles without trouble. I know of a guy and his wife that have 9k miles on each of their 600 E-TECs and they are still running well. Some have not been so lucky.

Anyway, the oil cost thing is just about a wash. I would rather think about long term cost of ownership. The Ski-Doo was my wife's choice, not mine. :tg:

Most of the newer 2 strokes that I ride with get similar or better mileage than me but one guy has replaced his engine twice in three years and the other won't open it up on the lake because 'it's bad for the motor'. Who wants to ride with those clouds hanging over your head?

The 800 e tec that I ride with burns quit a bit of oil and its more $$ than $35 a gallon! But this is UP riding, pretty much wide open all the way up to copper harbour so we are burning a lot of gas too haha I always put less gas in then the e tec and he has to run premium and fill oil. And I don't have to worry about blowing motors. To say the least, he was not real impressed with the 800 e rec coming off his 800 p tec. I will say that the doo rides amazing compared to my nytro........Still don't want one though :tg:
