$8059.00 with labor to get it replaced. This is not a joke, that is what it will cost to have the dealer replace it. Less than $2000.00 of that is labor and if you saw what it takes to get the motor out of one of these things most of you would pay someone else to do it. That labor also covers the motor assembly. The parts alone are well over $6000.00. Is Yamaha for real with this stuff?? Why the hell don't they sell a freaking crate motor or even a short block for this thing? You have to buy the motor in pieces and pay to have the dealer build it or build it yourself. I could buy a badass Chevy crate motor making over 600+ horse for what it costs to buy the parts to build a 3 cylinder Nytro motor. So how many times can I rebuild a 2 stroke motor for that kind of money? Several times in my book and I don't need a team from freaking NASA to get the motor out of the sled. My Nytro is currently a bare tunnel at this point sitting at the dealer. Nice work Yamaha, design a flawed filter location so the filter can easily be cut by a sharp metal bar that you put right under it and then gouge us to rebuild the motor. Not to mention all the other things that appear to be failing on these things after what I consider low miles. I think I'm done at this point, just waiting for my insurance to settle on it.

I'd find a used motor for 2 - 3 grand and then install Roest skid plate. I'm a fan of Yamaha and love riding them. As far as service and dealing with them, well, lets just say I ignore them. The teeth on my comb get sharper every year. At that cost your insurance company will write it off. What will you replace it with?

Yeah, thats absolutely crazy. Putting a motor in is actually quite easy, just takes a little time and patience. I know what you're saying about cost comparisons. A friend of mine just bought a brand new LS2 crate motor for $4500. I will continue to look for a motor for you. Yamaha does have long blocks available although most dealers will deny it. They usually keep a couple on hand for the race team or emergencies. When I was looking for an engine myself a few months back they were $3500 plus 300 for shipping. They had just increased the price from $3200.

Not sure at this point, I could wind up buying a cheap used Nytro and putting my stuff on it or which I'm leaning towards is maybe selling all my stuff and getting a Doo 1200 and throw a turbo on it. Or maybe an E-Tec 800 and just clutch it and leave it alone. Lots of options at this point and I'm not brand loyal.

Thanks for looking, if you have someone I could contact at a dealer about a complete motor maybe you could PM me the info.

Wow what a crappy deal. If I were you I would jump ship as well. Only so much a guy can take!

I dont understand how they cannot warranty it. I would keep calling customer service and squeak the loudest.

JT is a good guy to deal with. hope it works out ok fo you both

My sled is off warranty but I think its a design flaw setup to fail. By the responses in my other post it appears that the rubbing a hole in the oil filter due to the location of the metal sharp support bar is very common.

Well I'm in the same boat w/ a sweet 3 year Y.E.S warranty / not covered trust me you can't get them to cover it!!!!! It's abuse, I've gone round and round. Maybe a rush 800r next? At least the $ will stay in the us. I talked to the sales rep at my dealer said hopes I buy another yamaha and will help on the price. HA HA I'm all over that deal, must have sucker on my head. Maybe he'll give me a 20 year warranty! (how could you lose) I guess I'll never make it to to 25000 mi. valve ck. what a joke!

If you guys think other manufactures are any better go read their boards. The grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence. Trust me.
