I weigh about the same. I got the shock revalved and 7.1 spring. Made a big difference. I left all settings stock.
So, I after I buy the sled I have to invest $300 for ski's. $200 for shock revalving, $100 for a sway bar, $50 to fix the handwarmers, and $300 on a clutch kit.....I always put 192 studs in so I dont count that cost....So basically a $1000 to get it to ride and handle like it should ? ? And then I will still have to deal with the boogie wheel issues...........Damn, I want that sweet motor but having to spend a $1000 on an already expensive sled is crazy !!

in a way, yes.
Not all that stuff is completely required, but are nice-to-have's. Think of it this way, instead of pouring in several hundred a season into repairs, with the Yami you are putting the same amount in (if done in stages) but instead of that money just getting you back to square one, you get a better and better sled with each update, plus you get to ride it home every night, night after night.

I bet you could do most of this for a lot less than $1,000 if you shopped around. The TY classifieds are a great place to find most of your needs here.
I like Artic Cats too, but people mod the day ight out of those too. Every Ski Doo owner I know also. I'm sure also Polaris.

In my opinion you only need 144 studs in the stock 121 ripsaw. More will not improve traction very much and will hurt top end. This year I am trying the Pioneer kit that lowers the six idler wheels in the rear suspension. 800 miles and very little hifax wear. So far so good. If you buy a factory tall windshield the handgrips heat up just fine. You might need that in Wisc anyway. Put the clutch kit at the bottom of your list - the factory set-up really isn't that bad. Again - just my 2 cents. This site is full of people with a lot of experience and insight. Learn what you can.F7 Racer said:So, I after I buy the sled I have to invest $300 for ski's. $200 for shock revalving, $100 for a sway bar, $50 to fix the handwarmers, and $300 on a clutch kit.....I always put 192 studs in so I dont count that cost....So basically a $1000 to get it to ride and handle like it should ? ? I too came off a f7. I loved the cat but the apex is put together so much better its amazing. I would say lack of bite from skis on both sleds was my first priority. I pulled up limiter on both and changed out skis. On my 07 rtx i went with 5.7 pilots. They work well with shaper bars on both keels, even though still some darting in certain conditions. I just installed snowtrackers and if you want to totally eliminate darting go with these.Very accurate steering also.Biggest negitive is addded weight to front end and they might slow you down a little on top end. I have the pro-active skid after revalving rear shock it works pretty well. I would have to say the cat skid is still better overall in performance.I think overall you will love a apex, but it takes some time too get used to the engine braking and handling differeces from the cat.In the end, like everyone else says, you learn to fall in love with the moter and smooth planted feeling you get when riding especialy on tipical groomed trail conitions. Good luck.
