Good choice, but since your going thru the motions do a 144" and it will be a much better cross-over sled!

Bodatious, my bud does all his sleds in 144" and I don't care for them (just a bit too much track on the ground when I ride the tight twisty trails in N. WI). But I do agree they work well when taking them off trail. 136" combo delivers what I'm looking for. One thing I'm hoping will improve with the RTX is it's in air flight pattern. When wicking up the Attack on large trail whoops where the bottom falls out of the trail, the #*$&@ end of the Attack dropped quickly resulting in harsh landings. Driving my 136" XCR 800 edge tripple over the same section of trail delivered a ton more control of the sled and in air flight behavior was tame compared to the Attack. I'm talking Big rollers were your in the air for quite awhile at high speeds...

That's why I need those tacky grips!!!
 
bar none the best thing about that sled is the new style snow flap. I shutter every time I had to look at my new age high tech 4 stroker with a snow flap that looked like it was from 1973....cant wait to order one up and get it on my sled
 
well if it dosent come with that key im sending the apex back when it gets here.lol
but seriously whats with the new key? i kinda liked the 06 key.
thanks for posting the pics of your sled. im waiting for a apex in the same colour scheme.at leat i can look at somebodys new sled
 
i had a 06 attack and threw on a 1.5" ripsaw and c,a xt skis and ride strickly u.p.it worked great offtrail where i did 90% riding.i could stop and start without trenching or getting stuck.the big key is wider skis up front so the front doesnt dive.only complaint was the weight when jumping or trying to sidehill .other then that great sled. enjoy

On groomed trails at trail speeds they're not bad at all, but in stock form when I took my Attack off trail I noticed the weight right away! Stock skis sucked and so did the stock track. Combination of a track that wanted to trench and skis that don't float very well meant you are going to get stuck if your in any kind of serious snow sooner or later. The first time you dig this thing out compared to digging out a REV you'll be shaking your head at the 4 stroke! The rear end isn't that heavy but that front end is a bear.

IMO that ATTACK in stock form is meant for groomed trails and does a decent job. The next time you'll really notice the weight is when you're riding in typical late afternoon/weekend trails in the UP of MI. Last trip I was on I rode a 20mi section of trail that hadn't been groomed in a week and had 2'+ holes the whole length of trail. After that 20mi there was no doughting the weight on the front end of the Apex, stock shocks couldn't keep the nose in the air and it tired you much quicker then a lighter 2 stroke.

Craze, your approach on different skis and track should improve it's off trail behavior but if you get stuck as often as you say. I would be looking into a gym membership and start eating some spinach!!!

Congrats on your purchase the 07 Attack is a sharp looking sled!

I also agree 100%.. its a great on trail sled,, but needs 144 or 1.5 track and wider skis for off trailing.. you must ride it twice as hard to stay on top compared to a light weight 2 stroke..
 
on the key issue, I think it was getting bumped when left in a up position. I heard some guys blew a fuse (just a rumor) i had no problems with 4,000 miles. The new flap looks cool. I cant wait to get the new warmers/bar

Glad to hear you say this...as I definitely have wide skis and a 1.5 inch track going on. My track is Intense instead of Ripsaw, but should work just as well if not better off trail.

By the way Rich in case you don't remember me...this is the sled that your used A-arm protectors will be installed on...my next pictures will be post-assembly, and I'm sure you'll recognize them when you see 'em! Look for them in the UP...they'll be up there a lot this winter! Thanks!
 
yes the intense will be slightly better offtrail.and with those a-arm guards you'll be floating no problem.i see you alraedy have the skidplate sitting there.a must have for off trail in the u.p.hope to see you up there.you should come on a ty ride forsure.

so how many times have you sat on the sled since you got it and dreamed about riding it :)
 
I'll keep an eye out for the TY rides to see how they line up with what my regular riding group plans...There's always too many potential trips to attempt and not enough time! Actually just yesterday some friends booked us a cabin in eastern UP near Curtis/Lake Manistique for early Feb, and I usually hit the western UP 2 or 3 times a year all around the Goegibic/Watersmeet/Mass City area. Plus I always get one or two runs out to the Snowy Range in WY (the Attak will not go out there, I don't have THAT much energy...only a true mountain sled works for those runs). Usually around mid-October I suddenly realize my winter is booked SOLID. And somewhere in there I gotta actually WORK. I can't wait for retirement when I can go even more....just a few more years if the planets line up right for me...

OK guys...here's my take on the whole off-trail debate. Last December, with my brand new, completely stock Attak, 5 of us went up to the Keweenaw Peninsula. We stayed south of Houghton (South Range) and one of the days rode north towards Copper Harbor. As we neared Calumet, it was evident that a localized snowstorm of SIGNIFICANT proportions had just finished. I'm talking 16" to 24" of completely FRESH powder. Trail #3 was the only trail groomed. Everywhere else we ventured, either off trail or on trail was a paradise of powder. I boondock through this area of the U.P. 5 or 6 times each and every year since the late 70's. I know the area and it's conditions very well. It had been years since I had the pleasure of enjoying this much fresh, 100% untracked powder.

I lead much of the time, putting myself into situations that obviously are going to lead me to being stuck ALOT. That particular day and I remember it well, I got stuck once in over 5 hours of busting powder. I was completely exhausted from helping dig out all the 2-strokes riding with me. Granted, they were short tracks but I'm FAR from an expert rider. The fact is, the Attak performed as well as I could have ever hoped! Just my experience...
