I got tired of guys complaining, and wanting to get rid of RX1's, so I put together some clips of my sled from this past year. The last footage was from this past week when guys were going down hills, but not up.

NO Turbo, NO ECP's. Other than my suspension and exhaust my mods are cheap and involve taking crap off, not putting crap on. I'm about ready to take an 03 off a complainers hands "cheap" and with 2K put together a decent sled for my kid. At 115lbs he has no problenm with my sled, and with 4K on his two smoke we are faced with a top end rebuild.

Kachess,
Very good video. I'm one of your stated "complainers." That was very impressive. Out of curiousity, how much did it cost you to drop 80 lbs.? You've definately got me thinking about mods right now.

Thanks,
Christian

Good job tex... I remember some of that footage from 04'. It is amazing what you can do with photoshop making that Rev look like a RX1 :D

Just playing....it really, truly, seriously is amazing what a different skid and skis do for the sled. I love my 03'.

The Stock RX1 Mtn is built like a Tank, and handles like one. I get creepy feelings just looking at one. Painful memories just come flooding back. The motor was awesome and I wasn't going back to a 2 stroke. I had to get weight off.

Expensive Important Stuff I Did: 54lbs
Holz rear-$1299, 34lb (night and day difference over stock)
Excell Exhaust -$600, 15lb (you can buy a used white knuckle or bender (quiet) for $250 or less, that's what I sold mine for)
Hartman 159in. Tunnel extension - 5lb, $199 (the stock extension had to go)
Simmons Skis – adds wt, $350 (or equivalent)
Antiratchet Drivers - $150 (wood chisel and a press, gotta do it)

Cheap Important Stuff I did: 27.7lbs
Tuperware Airbox Mod - Wt Saving-4.1lbs, Cost-$5.50
Seat Mod - Wt Saving- 2.2lbs, $0, (hole saw to the back, boss is lighter)
Remove Light pod - Wt Saving - 4.4lbs, $13 (fog light, alum from old tunnel ext.)
Tail light - Wt saving - .8lb, $7.50 (trailer lights, brake only)
Light Weight Parking Brake - 1lb, Free (made it myself from junk)
Remove Tool Box 3.1lbs, Free (Stick what you need in your pack)
Battery Relocate 2.1lbs., Free (bracket weighs 34.8oz)
Lightweight Battery 10lbs, $60 (Yuasa YTZ7S, I bought the MPI/$229 battery 3yrs ago)
Steering Post Relocate 0lbs, Free (just work and scraps, improves handling)
Re-rout rear cooling hoses 0lbs, Free (I hated the hose fairings on the running boards)
Clutching 0lbs, $140 (clutched like 05, think I could have removed rivets and done the same)
Belly Pan Protector, adds weight,? (insurance)

Expensive Less Important Stuff I did: 10.5lbs
MPI A-arms 39in- 6.5lb, $400 (39in stock arms are fine)
MPI Lightweight Steering – 2lbs, $200 (2in higher than stock)
Holz Brake Rotor 2lb, $85 (they had a sale)

I've dumped over $3500 into my sled, but with hind sight and used stuff available I think I could get a good handling RX1 Mtn for 2K.

Thats a nice vid.
Dont let people get you down. You took an already great sled and swapped out parts to make it better for the kind of riding that you do. There nothing wrong with that.

you know what i find funny is how all these yammi bashers yap about the yammi being so heavy. you sled keeps agoing when most 2 strokers would have been barried down looking for help to get unstuck. that's a sweet vid kachess. noob

Can you post a pix or two of your rerouted hoses and seat in back. I am also starting to get a bit tired of the dual exiting exhaust. Was thinking of throwing a simple muffler under there that would dump in tunnel and then getting rid of the other stuff. It feels like it bumps my feet off some times. Also, does anyone know of any rail caps we can buy that are square instead of round? I find I am always slipping off my boards.

My hose re-rout is a little "mickey mouse" but it works. I run it up with standard hose, and then soldered up a 3/4" copper assembly to carry it over the exhaust. I have a bleed valve at the top, and got rid of the heavy taillight assy to make room. The bleed is above the fill so I raise the front while filling. I use aluminum Polaris running board edges. They are cheap, grip well, and slide right over the existing ones. Then I riveted them on the bottom.

Remember how much those Polaris edges were? Also, are they round or square? I really need to get something better...the rails are just a little too narrow and I have slipped off and really bruised my leg up. I think my project this next summer would be to get rid of the exhaust out the top. Just don't want to spend too much more money on the sled.

The edges were cheap compared to even the plastic ones. $10 or $15 each. They are round but have a good grip pattern. I had to run them through a table saw to open up a kerf so they would slide over the existing rolled edges. Then I put a couple of rivets in the bottom to fix them rigid.

Now thats walkin'-the-walk!

Finally......I am totally impressed with the RX-1! Although it still sucks you have to dump $3500 into a sled that is already 10K from the dealer. I like it though. Now you have me thinkin'??? Nice!
