07 Apex GT, speedo bearing is all but GONE!! NOT my sled!!! Any suggestions on how to get the inner race off the shaft without pulling the c/case apart and pulling the shaft???

Or take a torch with a brazing tip to it and a hammer and chisel.

Yes, set screws are out. Its a tough spot to get at with any tool.

Best bet .. pull the shaft , tough area to be grinding and poundin

Don't know if you succeeded yet, but I made a puller by using a 1 1/4" x1" long rigid pipe. I welded a nut on a 1 1/2" washer that excepts a 1/2"x 2"L hex bolt on end of pipe. On the other end I drilled and tapped 4 1/4-20 holes opposite each other 1/2" in from end of pipe. Slide pipe over bearing race, tighten 4 screws in groove of race, then tighten hex bolt down and that should draw race off shaft. Good luck.

To gain better access to this area without removing drive axle, I have drilled out the rivets on the inner (tunnel side) cup shaped bearing retainer that contains the studs. The two halves bolt together anyway, so you could leave the rivets out if you like. The inner race of that bearing is not a press fit on the shaft, hence the set screws, usually some soaking with PB blaster and/or heat, it should slide/pry off. If memory serves, I was able to use a gear puller one time, if there is enough of the old bearing to grab on to. There often is some corrosion build up between the inner race and drive axle if the bearing has not been removed for some time.

That being said, if this bearing has grenaded like you describe, it may be worth inspecting the chain case bearings as well, as the drive shaft was basically running mis-aligned that way for who knows how long. I would also look at cleaning and re-packing the bearing behind the secondary given the drive axle bearing would seem to have been neglected.

Cheers

Been spraying Pen oil on it as much as I can. Wont be able to work on it again till Fri nite. Keep ideas comn. Thanx!!!

Look at the video around 3:20 He sticks a pry bar behind and it pops right out . I just did the speedo bearing the exact same way

Thanx for all ideas, got it off! Pain in the arse but got it. Used Stolehm idea, except instead of welding a washer an nut on to it I used the threaded end of a 1 1/4 pipe an screwed a cap on it then tapped it for bolt. Got it off far enough to get a sawzall blade in there to split it.

better check speed sensor it is almost certainly toast as well. when that Bearing goes it allows the tooth wheel on the end of the shaft to hit the speedo sensor.

Right...it must be toast...we had an 07 vector throw a code, and then stall...so I rode it for a while....same thing, but caught the code...speed sensor. It was gone...chewed by the broken bearing. Never greased...dry as a bone, low miles.
He greases them now. We did get it off by polishing the shaft, and working it out with only loosening the track.

Thanx for heads up. Sled all repaired, with new bearing an speedo sensor that was chewed all to $&it. u
