Went into the chain case to change gears and upon re-assembly, forgot to plug in speed sensor. Sled threw code P1009. I stopped and plugged the speed sensor back in, but code still flashed and speedo won't work. Disconnected battery and still have coolant code. Hooked up my flasher and read the code, but can't clear it

In addition, the odometer adds miles exponentially. Traveling 2 miles will put 30 on the odometer.

Anyone ever had experience this?

There might be a possibility that you disrupted the position on the speed sensor magnet pickup , the rubber sensor cap may have dislodged from the chain case cover upon reassembly....

Called dealer and he advised code will reset after some miles. Guess I need to wait for snow.

Well....put 20-30 miies on today and still cannot get rid of the code. Speedo and odometer work fine, but code still flashing.

Speed sensor is still intact and well glued to the cover. Went into the chain case again.....and don't see anything amiss. I guess I'll try changing the sensor??

Bummer. Usually they reset in 10 minutes or so. Might take the Catt II scanner to clear it.

My speedometer display is really erratic.
Some times it shows my speed sometimes it 20 mph or 136 mph.
Speed shows up on logs like this also.
Time to check sensor.

Agree completely. Only way that could happen is if speed sensor itself is bad, Or, problem with magnets in the that hard rubber plug in end if drive shaft. Like partially demonetized, damaged, etc. Keep us posted please.

Any chance there's a tiny piece of magnet (broken piece) on that hard rubber plug somewhere? Or, is one of the magnets fractured/broken? Have to remove all magnets to inspect them. Even one that's fractured could cause an errant magnetic field that could affect pickup sensor.

Sometimes it reads normal also.
Riding again tomorrow. I will tighten up terminals in connector in the morning then if that doesn't do it investigate more with meter.

Well, the saga continues. Checked everything again in the chain case and all looked fine.

Put a new speed sensor and p1009 still flashing.

Pulled the ecu and hood off my thunder and put it on this sno pro. No code. Drove it 6-7 miles and speedo/odometer/everything works great.

Put back the original ecu/hood and the code was flashing once again. It appears the issue is in the ecu??

I guess it's off to the dealer.....hopefully he can clear it.

Thoughts?

Well, that proves issue is in ECU. Rare issue for sure. Seems once code was set due to sensor not plugged in, ECU doesn't reset like it should. Keep us posted
Good luck!

What year is the sled with issue?
