speedometer and display stop working

new to this forum,first year owning a snowmobile. I have a 2004 RX1 and running one day the speedo started acting up then stop working. the three circle lights are still working but the display and tact aren't. any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. While I too own a Mountain version of the RX1, I spend most of my time looking/posting on the RX/RS pages. Many folks discuss the speedo and keeping various parts lubed. Have a look at these pages for some tips, and for more RX'ers to bounce questions off of.

What do you mean by not working, the screen is blank? Or is your speed just showing up 0. If this is the case check the speedo gear under the secondary and see if it's still there.

yamahamaniac the screen is blank and the tact isn't working but the three lights above the screen work (temperture gage,high beam and warning light all work)

Mine did that the other day. Turned out to be a relay above your right foot, its behind the plastic shround. There is 3 of them, cant remember which one it was. As I added a apex fan/rad, so they just lay down instead of hang in the proper place. Thats my guess.

I will second checking the bearing and speedo gear under your secondary clutch.

Well if the screen is totally blank then the display must be broken and you're gonna need a new unit. Unless you know someone who's really good with electronics. I can't say anything for sure because I really don't know. Can you get a pic??

I will be working on it this weekend, will check the relays and bearing and speedo gears,hopefully it is the relay as they are the cheapest to replace. thanks for the help. I will let you know what happens.

well my unit it fried, I hook it up to one my buddies rx1's that is the same as mind and it didn't work. If anyone knows of a working used one, # 8FG-83500-00-00.

I'm just wondering how this would happen. Mine gets some condensation built up inside of it but nothing is wrong so far. Could this be what led to yours breaking I wonder?
