Speedometer Issues

I started to notice that the right side of my gauge cluster darkens at night and starts to act slow (similarly to how the whole gauge is when starting the engine on a cold morning). If I replace the gauge cluster, do I lose all the information on it (mileage, hours, etc)?

I saw somewhere that there is a mod to change out the unit to the RS Vector-style gauge - has anyone seen, heard, or used this set-up?
