hey guys, im new to this side, but have been on the 2stroke side for some years.
my first sled was and still is a 2002 srx700 which i love. it has great power, sounds like a muscle car and still turns heads. when i first started riding i was all about the trails and lakes which is where the srx shines. over the past few years i have gotten more and more into the powder/jumping/drift punching kinda riding and i love it to death. the more i ride this way the more i see that my sled needs serious mods to handle what im putting it through. i have been debating making the switch to a phazer but am worried about the power difference. i want a light sled that i can still stand up and carve with ease. anyone made this switch?? thoughts?

I'd look at the Nytro too if you're worried about power. They share the same chassis.

I own both.Phazer is fun just for reasons you stated.SRX is what I get on for a speed rush.Keep the SRX for smooth trails and the lakes and rivers.Get the Phazer for all else.

The phazer is a handful with not a lot of power. In order to really ride it to its potential you need to be strong. The amount of body english it takes to turn it compared to a traditional sled is comparable to the difference between a trike and a quad. The trike will toss you quick if you are not on top of things, as will the phazer. It is a rewarding bump and tight trail sled but not much good at anything else.

from everything i have seen on the phazer, it seems very front heavy(more then normal). like it doesnt want to lift at all. is this all in the setup or is that the lack of power showing its ugly head?

They are front heavy... but define heavy... my apex's are 150lbs more than my phazer. I like the sled, i dont have many miles on ours but from the few times i had it out i liked it. you will miss the power.... 80 hp is not alot, but the sled does feel like it has more. if the power is a concern, i'd jump to a nytro... seating is very similar, but i garantee you will be grinning form ear to ear with it from the motor.
I bought my phazer for the wife, she was getting too sore to control the Apex RTX, so we desided to try the Phazer RTX... a few mods she wants already... new skis, studs, exhaust...

The phazer is no lake racer. Can be under powered in some situations but for trail riding its plenty enough to have fun until you get to a lake.
When I am really engaged in riding, using my body to control the sled I can zip through the tight trails and bumps faster then my friends on their 800's. It does take a lot of input but its a blast!
If you plan on riding a lot of powder I would suggest a few modifications. New skies, flotation skip plate and track with taller lugs. The front end of the phazer is acts like a wall pushing through the snow and the stock tracks is fairly useless in deep snow. It all accumulates in the front.
I have an absolute blast on my phazer, so much that I personally don't miss riding the 800 2 stroke I got rid of. Very comfortable and easy to stand/sit.
Like others have mentioned, if power is a concern pump to a nytro but remember it will be a bit heavyer.

One of the benefits of riding the Phazer is you will never be cold - you are always using your body/muscles to ride it!! On tight trails I leave my buddies behind - they only catch up on the lakes.

i appreciate all the input from you all. i think ill just have to buy a nytro and phazer to make the choice easy (YEAH RIGHT! LOL) i do think i will have to try them both and get a feel for myself. cause i could talk back and forth about this all summer and still not make up my mind by the time snow flies. anyone know if there are any demo days in NH? lol

I went from a 98 SRX that i still have to my 07 phazer MTX. i can tell you this the phazer feels a ton lighter and carves 110% better. the phazer has a low end pull that can not be matched by the SRX. on that note
The phazer is not fast U think that and all the recalls on the 07 are the only major things that bug me. But when i got the MTX I knew it would not be fast. I would totally say there great sleds and a lot of fun in fact i am looking for an RTX.

Phazer is not front heavy at all.To me it is way easier to control in the air than a Nytro which is definitly front heavy.Phazer flies perfect.Can take huge whoops when setup right and is just alot of fun.

I agree, I find it to be balanced very well.

2009 Phazer MTX
Having had an SX600R and a SRX700 at one time I really don't miss them BESIDES the speed. The Phazer is hands down more fun to ride. the SRX feels very front heavy compared to my phazer, and the rides like its a ton lighter too even though they are not THAT far apart in weight. Sold my SRX and wanted to get a Nytro but I came home with Phazer MTX as I really didn't like how the nytro handled. There are days that I miss the SRX, but the trails usually ain't that smooth!
Speed = SRX 110+ vs ~85
Bumps = Phazer
SMOOTH trails = SRX
everything but SMOOTH = phazer
MPG = Phazer uses roughly 1/2 the gas
Jumping stuff = Phazer
Comfort = Phazer (I really didn't expect this but the phazer seat is pretty nice!)

so i had a chance to sit on a nytro a rev xp800, a apex and a apex mtx. all such different feels. by far the nytro felt the heaviest (rocking side to side). the apex mtx suprised me as i almost layed it over in the dealership it felt that light. i can only assume the phazer would "feel" lighter then this.
ill tell you what though, if it wasnt for the wife holding me back, i would have bought that apex mtx right then and there
