I've been looking at many options. Tried some gasket protoypes, but not an ideal set up. I've retrofitted a vector oil tank for this season and so far it's been working well. I plan to test all season with it and fi it holds out I will design a custom tank made to fit the space and mimic volume and baffling of the vector tank.

Excellent work Travis!
Ideally, when would it be available? Fall?

Yes, I would target end of summer/fall at latest. The leaky oil tank really annoys me and I'm sure others too so it is top of the list for next season!

This is something that everyone wants and needs, eventually they ALL leak until siliconed properly. Travis you will sell a ton brother! Good work.

I wasn't a big fan of these tanks as after some pounding on rough trails the tabs break off.I've been looking at many options. Tried some gasket protoypes, but not an ideal set up. I'm just testing concept with vector tank. If I build a product it will be a heavy duty tig welded tank.

Did CFM ever follow up with you? I remember you were after them to build one.

Count me in for one!! Its one of biggest pet peeves. I'll be running my Apex this week in Gaspe so I don'y have to keep checking things like belts, oil leaks, chaincase ...... Love my winder but its high maintenance lol.

Hey Travis...Did CFM ever follow up with you? I remember you were after them to build one.
It was interesting, as they initially(summertime) replied to my email very fast, and even asked me if I would be willing to send my tank to them. I replied with a long detailed email about what I believe this design needed, and how involved it would be. I may have scared them off? LOL....as they never replied....and I sent a few more emails after that too.
I have always hoped you would approach this oil tank thing Travis, I think you will be the man to bring what could be the most important upgrade to ALL these 998 models to life....Im sure your brain has been spinning through all the possibilities.
It sure seems to me that if possible....A way to make it easy to pull away, so to be able to get at gear swaps without having to drain oil, and also it would be super nice to be able to pull it away to check/tighten chain tensioner. To not have to remove muffler to tighten chain would be a huge benefit and selling point.

definetly a market once owners warranty starts to run out. I fuelled 150 sleds the past weekend at a rally. 6 of them we're sidewinders and the temp was about -30f. Sidewinder pulled up for fuel, all was well. Fuelled it and before he left there was a 5" puddle of oil on the ground. Another tank gasket gone. '17 winder with 1200miles.
A lot of it is piece of mind. Its not so much taking it to the shop but its dragging the sled from wherever you are and ruining your buddies trip in the meantime. For this reason, I left my sidewinder at home as I could not afford to have something like this happen during this day as I had to be at a certain location by a certain time.
Had it been my apex I would have went out no problem and nothing is bulletproof. I just have so much trust since 2007 on apexs that its sad to think I spent $20,000.00 on something I have no faith in.
This oil tank would be my #1 upgrade for starters and it should be Yamahas #1 priority.

Will it have a dipstick,to check oil level, also will it be any easier to remove oil for oil change?I'm just testing concept with vector tank. If I build a product it will be a heavy duty tig welded tank.
