I have an 06 Rage and I overheated the starter trying to get it running. I have the Yamaha Service and repair manual and it tells me you have to pull the engine to get at the starter. YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! There must be an easier way to get at it. Anybody worked on this, please help!
Thanks,
Greg

On an 05 vector you can pull the belly pan and look up past the oil filter and see the starter. It doesn't look easy but I don't think the motor needs to come out. You'll probably need to remove enough to at least rock it.

I have replaced a starter on a buddies sled, you have to remove the seat, exhaust header, and some of the parts of the motor, there is a very large bolt that holds the motor in the mount, you dont have to pull it all the way out but you have to be able to rock it forward.

Thanks, I assume you still have to drain coolant and oil as you probably have to remove the coolant line underneath the motor and the oil filter in order to actually remove the starter when you rock the motor ahead. Was the exhaust gasket reusable or are you better off getting a new one. Can you rebuild these starters or do you have to replace. It appears that pretty much all yamaha offers is brushes for replacement. I'm wondering if a auto electric repair shop would have any parts needed. Thanks for the info.
I have a used starter off my 05 Rage with 2300 miles on it. Make me a offer with shipping.
