OK, I completed the starter replacement yesterday and it went VERY smoothly....The post that is a sticky in this forum about how to remove the front end and replace the flter/oil/starter with the front frame removed was my inspiration.
I am not a mechanic by any means, but the thought of 800 bucks for the replacement forced me to do it myself after several sleepless nights worrying about the $ .... There was no way I was going to get the new starter in there without removing the front frame. I put it in, put it all back together, added oil and it started right up.
Thanks for all the advice on this forum.
My next questions ....
Is this only the beginning of fixing things on this sled?
I know it is a machine and machines need maintenance, but now I am afraid to go ride it because I am afraid of another several hundred dollars to keep it running.
I have read lots of forum posts and most people have great reliability stories to tell....but I am totally gun shy right now....any words of wisdom?

I would say preventative maintenance/modifying is the key to phazer longevity. There are a lot of good posts on here and most issues can be addressed before they occurr...and they probably will. I have mine set up pretty damn good this year and have had ZERO issues with it so far, as compared to last year when every other ride something failed. Once you get to know the beast, its pretty easy to tame.
Thanks Ruckus.....So at this point I have new starter, new battery, new plugs, stabilized fuel, new filter about 200 miles ago...anything else glaring that needs done? You mention your's is set up now...what did you do to make sure it runs trouble free?

Mine this site for information and learn your machine. Get a maintenance manual on CD. If you have the facilities, thaw the machine out after every ride and inspect it. Carry a copy of the fault codes when you ride.

Just wanted to give props to Cannondale one more time! He has helped me out more than he knows, and countless others! He is 'the man' when it comes to Phazers! And, I heard he does shocks too!
