Finally got some snow last night, only a few inches at my place. Had my buddies 7000 out for 10 miles or so between this more and this afternoon, this is the first its been run enough to say so since last season. Sled felt strong, pulled a consistent 8700-8730 rpm, fairly short distance, top speed 78 mph, I have a marker where I let off every time. Decided today would be the day I put the modded air box on, a couple months ago I did the airbox mod on the one off my viper so it was all done and read to go. Rode the sled some before I made the switch, same 8700 at 78 mph. Pulled the sled in my basement at 2, at 4 I had it all back together and headed back out. First impression, it sounds awesome! Didn't notice a huge difference right away on the launch, pulled the same 8700 for about 200 feet and then it just kept gaining, pulled 8880-8900 spot on every time, definitely more mid range power, top speed in the same exact distance and conditions, 81 mph and it was definitely getting there quick. I take no credit for this other than being willing to do it and I'm glad I did, all credit goes to Stingray. Next on the list is going to be taller gearing, after I give that a few runs I'll be putting a d&d quiet can on and adjusting the clutching if needed.

I'm itching for some snow to do some testing. I have the Ulmer velocity stacks to go inside the air box as one of my first tests after verifying what the gearing does. Then I will look to doing the inlet stack and blocking off the lower section and see how that does. I found it helps to have a Gopro watching the dash so I can focus on operating the machine especially with my limited clean shutdown.

What weights are in there Studroes. It's a bit low on rpm and you will want 9100-150 with gear change for sure. The 14 stock 7000 weights should be perfect with the gear change since they overreved stock.

This one has a clutch kit in it, checked after I brought the sled back in and had the hood all off and belt deflection was a bit low but didn't want to change it cuz I wanted to keep everything the same so that may be lowering rpm some. Hoping with the exhaust and taller gearing it's gonna be right about there on the clutching.

Nice news Studroe. Just got done switching out my air box with a modded one. Changed the oil and put on my new can. I went and checked on my bean field to test on and way to rough. Just have to wait for snow. I am going to run this set up first before I swap out gears. I seen 101 mph a cpl weeks ago on the shoulder of the road. I am confident we will be seeing 103/105 next time out. Thanks for all the valuable info.

I'm actually gonna put the can on first and run that with the airbox and stock gearing to see how it does in the same short distance, our snow is gonna be all gone next week and I don't have the gearing yet so mights well have some fun yet while we still have a few inches.

Thank you sir, a question though. That particular mod should have a noticeable increase in throttle response, like let off and try to go around a corner and blip it. Did you notice that?

Honestly today is the first the sled has been on snow since last year and we only have a few inches at my place so no real riding yet, just some field play. The clutching on the sled backshifts very quickly so the throttle response is always right there. What I did notice tho was after 1-2 seconds of wide open once the sled was well in motion that the engine really came alive. Just put the quiet can on and went out for a few more passes. This morning without doing anything to the sled, first riding of the year, it was pulling 8700, just a tad more here and there, with air box mod it was just squeaking in the 8900 rpm range, with the air box and the quiet can it was pulling 9080 spot on and holding it, the air box and the can together gave it a noticeable increase in throttle response, on one launch it did tap the rev limiter, that's the first I've ever felt the rev limiter on this sled. Didn't hold it long enough to try for more speed, dark fields late at night and fast speeds aren't my thing, but the seat of the pants feel, it no doubt has a nice little mid range gain picking up 350-400 rpm just by bolting some stuff on. So far the sled has a $250 clutch kit, free air box mod and a used can we picked up for $120 and roughly 6 hours of labor. Time and money well spent. Before we go out on any actual trail riding I am gonna put an afr gauge on just to see how the 2 mods are affecting that, there is one little spot while cruising and going on and off the throttle that there is just a hint of hesitation, didn't do it until now, so fueling I'm sure could be fine tuned but just gotta make sure it's in the safe zone on the longer pulls

Great info, had the MBRP trail can last year, installed clutch kit but have not tried yet ,no snow.I was thinking of doing air box next after testing clutching.Keep us informed when you get some more testing done.If it looks safe I'll do air box mod while waiting for snow.

I also did stingray's airbox mod, a sandales can, and stingray also helped me out with my cultch set up (cotc) last spring with 8dn belt! I got 9100 rpm testing it for the first time a few weeks ago and the sled has very noticeable improvements compared to my wife's stock 7000 ;)!;)!;)!
I really appreciate the time and testing Stingray along with many other do on the vipers to get them to run to there full potential and are willing to share there knowledge with us.

I have spent literally thousands of dollars on vendor fees, research, parts, and give away parts. It is people like you that appreciate it that make it worth while. Thanks!

Did you add a fuel controller, or was stock mapping safe

I can not say if it's safe or not ( I asked the same question a while back with people saying the run it like that last season with no fuel controller) so I'm trying it just watching for a light or code! So far thing are running great no issues what so ever but if I do run into any issues I will post immediately!
