I have just been noticing lately that when I am at low speeds (10 to 20mph) in deep snow or on the trail, I can hear what sounds like a gear turning/grinding. I have not noticed this for the first 2500kms but am starting to notice it more now.
Sled is at 3500 kms.
I know this is not a very good description of the sound but I don't know how to describe it better. It is not very loud but I can notice it.
Maybe coming from the jackshaft/chaincase area?

If you have reverse.. Does it engage properly? They can be touchy

Chain tension and oil level is fine
But sometimes i have to creep forward a bit more before it will go into reverse!

It may not be the noise but worth adjusting. I also noticed if the belt is to tight it doesnt want to shift either.

I had a noise in my Venture and couldn't figure it out .Yesterday the belt blew apart .I replaced it on the trail and now the noise is gone .

Ya your right Wilson it's probably a belt issue as I have not changed it yet.
Thanks.
By the way, how often should the belt get changed under normal conditions?

I have heard of guys going 10000Km The most I have ever gotten is 5000
I usually change them because they wear down . This is the first one that I ever blew up . It was weird the rubber came off of the out side down to the cords .I was still riding but stopped to see what the noise was . I should have taken a picture of it . The Ski-doo guys hung it on a tree.

How's your track tension? If its to loose, you're track might be ratcheting.

the belt can be checked for wear with calipers. new it is 34.5mm and wear limit is 32.5mm. inspect for cracks or other damage as well. if the cord on the side of the belt breaks i would consider it finished no matter what and change it asap.
