I want to stud my 03 shorty, the dealer told me last year to wait till someone figured out what to do about the front heat exchanger. I saw something about puting aluminum pieces alnog the tunnell protectors but Im not sure about the exact procedure. I went to ask the local repair & accesories guy if he'd be interested in studding it and he had no interest in taking a chance with screwing up the oil cooler. Any suggestions????

I had 96 studs installed down the center at my dealer on my '03 shorty. No extra protection installed. I have 620 miles on it now and no problems. Sled really hooks now too. I have a friend with 192 studs in his '03 shorty, no extra protection, and 2,000 trouble free miles. Also done at the dealer.

Suggestion, find another dealer.

I had my dealer install 144 studs on my 03 last year and this year I added a 1 1/4 track and 96 1 3/8 studs. No problems and no extra protection. I think your dealer is full of it :!:

Studs

I have 2 tracks, one with 192 studs and onw with 288 studs. All 1.25" and have over 1800 miles with no problems. Still have heat shields too.

I do not know what all the hype is with extra protection. My dealer says that there is heavy duty protection already in place. I even looked myself, sure enough it was there. I guess I am at a lose as to why I need more.

192 ........ 1.205 Chizels .
Watch tension and you should be fine.
The stock track stretches like crazy. Keep checking it!
Woodys recommends 1.075, I ran 1.175 and 1.180 with only slight heat shield damage, because I didn't watch the tension.

I have 192 / 1.15's on stock track with 2000 kms on and no problems.

I had 500km's when I studded and the track still stretched like crazy for another 500 kms anyway.

Still have all parts it came with underneath. No extra protection

I waited until I had almost 1500 mi. on my stock track (so it was completely stretched) and added 144 1.125" Woody's. No problems in another 1500 or so miles.

Camo9833 1.25" with 96 1.180's (give .25" penetration) Roetin's down the center. A few "minor" scratches on the heat shield but overall ... No problems whatsoever. Like everyone else says I reall just keep an eye on track tension.

I don't see any reason why you couldn't stud the sled, but why stud the original track? I almost spent the money on studs when I bought my sled, but decided to wait to see how the track worked. I was glad I waited...no traction in powder at all, or on loose groomed trails. Then the fingers started ripping off soon after I bought the sled, so I waited. I'll be studding my replacement track soon.
