Hey guys, Im going to be studding my track on my 08 fx nytro here soon. Im wondering how many hours i should set aside to do it. Ive never done it before.
Also Im still not sure if i should do 144 or 96 studs. I will be mainly riding around baldwin cadillac area on the trails. And i do like to ride pretty hard.
What studs do you guys recommend ?
Thanks!

I am just contimplating the same questions myself. I have read that you should stud a track with 1 stud per horsepower. If this is true then the 144 would likely be the best option. My other concern is studding on the outside of my track. I am worried that this would really shorten the life of my track. I think I may just go down the middle and see how she hooks up. Good luck!

I recomend 144 up the centre, woody gold diggers would be the stud of choice. I have only broken 1 stud off in the last week or 2. this will b the third season. and I have no rips in the track and I drive the piss out of it! if anything no studs on a track will shorten a tracks life for how much more you spin. (depending how u ride)

I did 3 down each row. You may just need a longer carbide if you stay in the middle. Mine is 8", with studs down the middle.
I just did mine like last week. Didn't lift the sled way up, just did 4 rows at a time from the rear. Took the flap off for access. Took me @4 hours maybe. Give or take. Its just VERY monotonous.
I just always read, too few studs can cause you to have some rip out because of the hoursepower/torque.
I went with Gold Diggers ( 1.325 I think ) with the tall nuts.
Unless they gave me more studs/backers, I think it actually came out to like 138 studs or something. Just going by what I had left in the bag.

Just got done with 96 down the middle and took it out on the glazed over river by me to test, minimal snow conditions and it hooked up just fine. If it was the XTX model, obviously more, but I put in two wide each window.
I didn't jump on the extra carbides yet as I'm contemplating some different skis........but yes with the horsepower push and the sled's extra grip, it's always nice to have front end bit when ya do it.
I also used 1.325 Woody's gold diggters with tall aluminum nuts. 3 hours and it was done.

And in terms of one stud per hp.........
My thought is that it depends on your ride.
Lake or dragging, more for hookup and no tearouts.
Personally, I like the rear to move a little verses riding on rails completely so I only dropped 96 in.

Ran Woodys Signature series 1.325`s , 96 down the middle the last year ,about 2500 miles, none bent, no pull thru`s , just didn`t seem to be hooking as well as I wanted , put in 144 , 1.45 Gold Diggers , 96 in the middle and did every other on the outside . WOW what a difference . hooks up and stops so much better . just need to keep an eye on track tension .I think more studs will lessen the chances of tear outs ,spreads out the load . as said before it`s all about personal choice and what kind of riding you do

144 down the middle. The perfect trail set up. I ran mine that way last year and worked out great

144 down the middle, 3 in each row. I like the woody megabites, but any woodys product is very good in my opinion. I like the fast trac airlite xl backers. lighter and stronger than aluminum I think, never had one break and they can't bend like aluminum.
Easiest way I've found to stud a track installed in a machine is to lift the rear of the sled in the air so you can work at chest level when standing. If you've never done it before, and you do it by yourself... 144 studs would probably take 2 hours at the very most if you took your time and drank some beers. I just did 108 in 50 minutes, with two beers.
