Well, I've got another bench racing debate here. I've been told by a friend of mine to ditch the template I bought to stud my Nytro and another buddie's Rev 600. He says that the templates aren't aggressive enough, and they don't have a wide enough scratch pattern, and I should continue to draw my own, like I've done in the past.
I made my Apex's pattern so I wouldn't rub the shock head, but I though to use the template just to make it easy.
Draw it, or template it?????

I've done it both ways, but if I use a template, I vary it a bit to get more scratch lines.

Me too, use the template but off set each one a little.
It depends on the template.
I like making my own though.

You should use your own. Try to be "artistic" with it, because if it looks fast, it is fast. The pattern on my '07 GT is a Woodys, it looks aggressive because it is.
1500 miles when the pic was taken.
This '64 Ferrari GTO looks fast because it is fast, it was designed w/o a wind tunnel. Only the eye of the designer was used to get its sexy shape.
Now go make a pretty pattern for your buds studs.

make your own pattern. just remember, inside track is where all your acc. and braking traction is. I've set some up with no studs on the outside for sliding purposes

The StudBoy template pattern I used for 144 studs in a 121" track will make 28 grooves in the ice if you spin the track. It's a 2-4-2-4-2 pattern with studs in the outside band every other row.

on my 07 attak i put 108 in center, using woodys pattern, i thought i
needed more so i called woodys they said put in the outside ban for
better traction, i asked him about putting more in center he said
don't waste your time.

FWIW, I used a standard pattern and according to the floor of my storage space, it's left a pretty good path of scratches, not just a few rows! Doh!!!

I used the Woodys template for doubles and singles, all in the center. I really like using double plates, and it gives plenty of scratch lines but I don't like the scratch pattern it leaves. It pretty much trenches out wide ribbons in the ice as many of the studs are very close. My friend always makes his own and his pattern is much more spread out.
