hello I hate the fact of worrying about stud damage so is anyone running either the ice cobra or ice attack with good results instead of studding ice ripper track

I went with an Ice Attack, same concerns as you. I’m not sure if it’s really an issue as a lot of the guys here went with studding without any problems. That being said, I ride U.P. Trails and lakes, for that the Ice Attack works well. It provides a margin of safety when things are icy. I’ve got over 4,000 trouble free miles on it and would add it again. The sled has so much power that without studding, it will break free while just trail riding, additional traction is a must. How much depends on how much you want it to hook up. You wont win drag races with the Ice Attack, but it is a definite improvement.
 
I have ran the 1.6" ice cobra track for 5500km now with zero issues. Like the fact I don't have to worry about studs pulling through. Like Dlwarrior said your not going to win drag races since it doesn't hook up like studs, but the ice cobra is better then running no studs at all. I have been running the Hurricane 270 race tune and the track has been holding up fine.
 
I have a 1" ice tech track on my apex XTX I had a mpi SC on it turned up to around 220 hp and it was perfect for what I wanted it is just enough to keep the track behind you and the skis out front and that is all I want. anything more and pushes to hard in the corners in my opinion. if I had the funds I would get one for my sidewinder this year instead I plan to put in the studs I have at home already.
 
I would try the ice storm, that’s what I’m going with next. I have the stock track with 144 studs now and am worried about pull outs. I had a ice ripper on my apex and loved it. The trails I ride usually have plenty of lake effect snow and loose snow and I feel like studs don’t help at all on nice trails and a storm 1 1/2” would do better than my stock studded 1 1/4”. That being said, if I ran #*$&@ trails with a lot of icey corners and hills I might stud but the prestudded tracks add that extra bite for safety.

Yes I had the same concern, whereas studded tracks have cost me time and money with the damage they can create.
So I tried the Ice Attack on my Winder. It is a fun set up on most conditions with the added safety factor, but does not do much on 100% ice surfaces. I lost 3 or 4 lugs last year trying some top end runs on a rough icy lake. Speedo was reading 133 but GPS was in the low 120’s because of spinning. Plus the wind was pushing me sideways. Just to be clear, I really like that track on any snow conditions. But on Ice (suck)!
A riding buddy has that same track on his Apex LTX with yamacharger, and it does very well, good combo. He has 3 season without any damage and the lower slung Apex is not affected by wind like the Winders are.

You say “studding Ice Ripper track”, I was going to try studding my Ice Attack but the Camso rep that I called, said it was not advisable for a Winder...
 
Like stated above Way better traction with studs.

I put ice ripper on my 06 Apex GT and thought I lost so much performance with out studs that I missed them. I had gone over 10k miles with studs before the change and like you I didn't want to worry about stud through heat exchanger. ( why? I had never had that with a Ripsaw/ Camoplast track - once with a Yokohama in 98)

Well I have studded my new to me APEX XTX and love it- just 3 per bar alternate outside row with V down the center avoiding the true middle.
Yet I have NOT studded my 15 Viper that has 4k miles as it is already slow and I think the rotating weight will slow it even further- I know just 1-2 mph still.
I like the 1.3 Cobra and can live with that sled not studded but just missed the Apex pull and perma grin when the APEX would spin at 50-70mph.

So if you don't need to stud for Ice safety, Braking etc and want just a little better than with out studs do the ice tracks just keep your expectations in line, you will not feel like you are riding a studded sled.... at least I didn't.
 
I had the IceAttack on my 137" LE.
It is now STUDDED!
Of course i didn't have the 4th wheel kit, but my skinny #*$&@ not only couldn't get it to hook, but it was dangerous.
The IceAttack worked AMAZING on my Apex. Not my 'Winder though.
My 2 cents.
 
I would love to ride a pre-stud on a sidewinder to make up my own mind on it. I would like to try that storm I think its called with the variable lug height. Many people state they didn't like it on the apex "not enough hook up" I wonder if they are mostly used to running conventional studs. I like the weight loss of a 1" track with the pre-stud you at some thing like 5 lbs over the stock 1.25 track weight so you have less rotating mass. I like the sled a little loose in the back I just don't want the snow flap to try and pass me unexpectedly and that is what I have found in the pre-stud tracks in the past even with over 200 hp on my apex.
 
I prefer studs because if you combine rain/or even just +30 temps, you add traffic and then a bitter cold night, riding a unstudded track is just lethal. I’ve seen a few spins/fishtails like this vid (starts 3:00), but on a 10 ft trail through trees. Haven’t tried new Ice cobras though.


 
We ran buds winder a couple weeks before he studded it....Im telling you, its not safe period. These things get squirly fast. And forget it if you have a tune. lol

I will say i loved my Ice attak on my etec though.....Running 160 HP on a 2s is a totally different animal then a 4s even with less HP. I liked my ice attak so much on my '14 etec(2s), i got same track for my '16 1200(4s). 1200 had maybe 140ish HP, so less then the etec had, and the torque on a 4s just is too much for pre-studded....I ended up adding 2/bar studs and it turned the 1200 into a monster out-a the hole.

I would only run pre studded on any 4s if you are strictly a touring typer rider who does not accelerate hard, only eases into the throttle and just rides mostly big wide open trails, not tight trails.
