Just wanted to post up some info on my sun frame change out. Bought my sled back to my dealer last year with the right side A Arm of my sled pushed back. The shock was sitting approx 1/4" of an inch back from center.

So the service Manager took some pics and sent it off to Yamaha Canada. They were then told this fall that it would only be replaced on a case by case basis and if the sled appeared to not have hit something then it would be changed out. This was the case with my sled and as the title says they changed out my sub frame. With the sub frame out on the floor, there were no signs of any damage, bends or paint flaking any where. It still looked brand new! So then I was a little worried that maybe this not the cause of the problem. Put the sled back together using the 09 sub frame and low and behold everything came back to dead center.

They also changed out the ball joints with the 09 updated ones even though they changed them out once last year. Then they installed the new deflector plate under the clutch area.

All this work and not a penny for me to pay. Very nice I would like to add!

Just want to end my post by giving a big shout out my dealer, Wisemans Sales and Service Milton, near Clarnville Newfoundland. These guys are second to none and really go the extra mile to help there customers out. So if you live near by I would really recommend these guys if you are in the market for a new Yamaha!!

Good news for you!

Back in May I took my sled in for some warranty work and they noticed that my subframe was bent. I had it replaced, but they put an 08 back in! I am mad at myself for being proactive!!! If I was a slacker I could be sporting an 09 and not have to worry about it.

It completely surprises me that they gave you the deflector plate at no charge.

Mine goes in Weds for the same, all covered under warranty. My neighbours' was done last week, straight as new now. Hopefully the 09 parts will hold up better to whatever seems to be causing these issues.... :o|

Yeah I hear you there lucky_7. I did report mine in Feb last year but they were waiting for something back from Yamaha as to what course of action to take. Thankfully this was it, but from what I understand from the service manger as was not as cut and dry as it should have been. I think they had some arm twisting to do

I know I was pleasantly surprised when they told me the plate was included with the other work.

But like I said they are a great bunch of people to deal with.

I was going to bring mine in but I have a dent in one of the tubes on the bottom (don't remember even hitting anything :o| ) so it is pointless as that will likely be taken as a "sign of impact". This is no where near the a-arms or where they mount but I am pretty sure it would be a waste of time. Take it as it comes I guess.

Did they replace a arms as well or just the sub frame? I thought the a arms were slightly changed for 09 to go with the new sub frame?

to nl viper what was the defector plate under cluctches mine frame is same right back a lot never hit nothing . will see

The arms are only changed for geometry, the sub frames are the same except for the bracing. You can no longer get the 08 frame as the 09 number has superseded it.

i think these sub frame issues should be brought to transport canadas attention if they flex this easy under no contact i dodnt think these sleds are safe.

Mine is in getting a subframe also. According to the dealer no signs of impact, no flaking of paint even on the subframe. I hope I get to see the old subrame when I pick up the sled, hopefully by the end of the week. Forcasting a foot of snow here...................

After I bent mine in a crash last season, I continued to ride 2 more days with very little negative effect at cruising speeds. I'd be very surprised if anyone at Transport Canada would class them as 'un-safe'.

That's great to hear man. Mine is gonna be going in sometime in the next week or so to get the snaps taken. My case hopefully comes out as good as yours. No signs of impact as far as I can see on mine either so I got my fingers crossed!!

Does anyone know where to get som documentation on this, and other recalls/updates?
I live in Norway, and I haven't heard of any of this from my dealer. Are they listed in some way in Yamaha's pages? Would be cool to have some papers to smack their heads with. Especially on the ball joint issue...

Not sure about any official doc's. I just bought up the issue about my suspected bent sub frame and my dealer went straight on with it to Yamaha Canada until I ended up here.

As well as I stated above there was no across the board recall on the sub frames. It was down to your dealer and Yamaha Canada (In my case) to pass judgment on if you were to get the sub frame replaced or not. I think it was the same with the ball joints as well. If they were inspected and seen to be gone then they were to be replaced with the 09 version

Hope this helps and best of luck!
