Survivorman - OLN

Good thing you got that bugger exkimo dont need to have any youngsters hurt,so do you trim all the fat off before cooking,we just ate some awsome bear meat this past weekend at a friends up in the top of maine, who shot one this year, but i have had bear meat before and did not like the real gammy taste, but this time it was soo good you dident know it was bear meat, and yes it was yummy.. ;)!

For that particular bear, it was kind of skinny, so we did not need to trim the fat. When it is about 1500lbs, then you have to trim it bigtime.

The bear meat is better when it has been left for a day or so, with some tenderizer and spices. The meat depends on the kind of food the bear ate; the best meat is that of a younger bear which ate mostly young seals and fish. The older bears tend to be more gamey as they eat anything they find or kill, so they pick up the taste of their food.

We leave some fat on, but only from certain parts of the ribs and back. It can also be quite smelly from the old blubber near its legs and belly. Thanks.

Depends on what you kind of extreme environment you like, we have all types of terrain, depending on the snow and your likes, it would be good to check it out in May.

24 hour daylight and depending on the clouds, sunlight. Only time to sled in June is on the ice, and grassy terrain.

RX-E ;)!

I just checked out Pond Inlet and Baffin Island web sites.

Seems that you have quite a bit of activities for visitors. I saw dog sled tours any snowmobile tours?

I will check out Google Earth.

How many miles above the Arctic Circle are you located?

Yes, but not sure if the Coop is using 4 strokers yet. We are at 72 degrees north, 43 minutes. We are almost at 73 degrees. Repulse Bay is where the Arctic Circle is. They are about 400+/- miles south as the crow flies?

Need to talk the Coop into Yamaha 4 strokes. Then have a TY ride there. How neat would that be. ;)!

I have been to Northern Norway on numerous military exercises, and have flown in the Bardufoss, Tromso, and Finnmark area which is around 300 miles North.

Have crossed the arctic circle 66 deg 32' 33" in the North Sea by ship 3 times: at (009deg 44'E) (10 deg E), and (11deg 10'E).

I have always enjoyed being in the "real" North.

Not being influenced by the Gulf Stream, it's definitely colder where you live.

The Gulf Stream affects mostly southern Greenland, Iceland and the Faroe Islands in this part of the world...If you fly southeast to Nuuk, Greenland, they do not even have any sea ice, not even shoreline ice.

There are now 4 Yamaha 4 strokes in town, my RX-1 Mountain and 2 2005 Warriors, one in blue and other in red, although the shorty may have been shipped out along with the owner's other belongings.

I have thought about getting that done; Yamaha 4 stroke exclusive rental shop...May do that next year and start a High Arctic TY spring ride for May when all other areas are void of snow. :D

The difference between other areas in the 70 degree latitude is that they have forests, even in their High Arctic regions.

Today's weather is -33C with the dewpoint hitting -37C. The wind is sw at 4kph. I believe that is in knots. It may be in kilometers per hour. Thanks.

Hey RX-Eskimo,
I visit your town a couple times back in 98 or 99.
I traveled there with my work. I stayed at the co-op at the time. The ladies really knew how to cook up hearty meals!
Beautiful country up there.

Hey redsled; I have met a lot of people from the Rock...lol 8)

Nice to meet you and it has grown a lot since that time. :D

RX-E ;)!
