Ruckus
TY 4 Stroke Master
07 FX: 1.5" Freeride and Slydog skis with studboy 6" shapers.
This year I started out by setting my rebound and dampening on the mid point, springs in their softest setting and skis in the middle (center) position. Same with the rear.
After one ride I set the front (rear) shock spring to med-soft, rear springs on medium and rear dampening on full. My riding style is 1/4 groomed trail, 1/2 ungroomed trail and 1/4 powder. I am 5'10, 180 lbs. No kickback and no bottoming. The rear suspension is great now. I set the limiter strap to the 3rd hole last year.
I tried widening the skis yesterday and although it reduces the tipiness somewhat, its impossible to handle in powder because it is too wide. I'd rather maneuverability than stability.
I also set the limiter strap to the 2nd position to reduce ski pressure and now it barely makes it around corners (due to pushing) on the groomed trail without some serious weight transfer to the front. Engine braking is not enough, I have to brake and lean ahead to make it turn. Not fun when someone is coming straight at you in the other lane (which at this point you are in).
Front spring tension is now set on full and this seems to be working out fine as I had bottomed it on the soft setting several times. Seems to keep it from diving too much when turning as well.
Next: Back to middle ski setting and back to 3rd hole on the limiter strap so I can make a decent turn and still be able to boondock.
I also added a 2" PowerMadd riser to increase the leverage and help in being able to toss the machine around. This made a big difference and I recommend it to anyone who is taller than 5'9".
Hope this helps anyone who is struggling with setting up their suspension on the Phazer. Its a crazy machine but it can be tamed with the right modifications and a bit of patience. Now where can I get a Yamacharger?
