Looking for a little help with my Rages suspension. I actually watched the suspension DVD that came with my sled. It was somewhat helpful since I am a newbie but It's like they didn't finish. What I am trying to figure out is the limiter strap and control rods, what would cause me to change them and what affect they each have. I have set up my sled for my weight (260 w/gear) but I don't think I am really hooking up. When I punch the throttle it seems like I just spin. From what I can gather from this site
I should be able to dial my ride in a little more but I am hoping someone here can give me a little more direction than my owner's manual. TIA

Your limiter strap will limit how much track is on the ground and will affect the ski pressure and transfer. Sucking the limiter straps up will put more pressure on the skis and transfer less. Letting the limiter straps out will put less pressure on the skis and transfer more.
Now the control rods, if you make a larger gap you will have more transfer and less weight on the skis under acceleration. If you make the gap smaller you will have less transfer and more weight on the skis under acceleration. Hope this helps.

These motors are torque monsters, so you can spin your track.
You need to do a bit of a balancing act. If it feel like your skis lift a little on acceleration, then you have got weight transfer that'll give you the best whole shot. Then you gotta do some corners checking for understeer. If you have too much weight transfer the skis wont have enough pressure to corner as good as they could.

Allen/Tork, Thanks for the input. I know these have mombo torque = spining track, but my neighbor thumps me out of the hole with his 550 2-up panther.75in track. I figured I needed to mess with the strap or control rods to try and get a better hole shot I.E. more track on the snow. What do you think?

Yes sir Toys R
First of all, your sled has to be practically brand new. These tracks I've found tend to be pretty slippery when new. Plus they probably use a mold release agent when they make them.
If I were you I would not do a single thing for 200 miles. Forget the hole shot for awhile. Study how your sled feels, transfer and cornering.
Only then can you really tell what your changes are doing. Sometimes when you stab blindly like this, you can make it worse and you wont even be able to tell because you havent established a baseline from which to work.

Ya Tork I know what you mean. I have had to tighten up the track already. But lets say in 200mi I am still getting spanked by that panther what would I adjust to get better hole shot (besides studs).

Toys-R-Us, can you explain to us what the sled does for rpm's when you start from a dead stop? In my testing I've found it to overshift, this could be alot of the reason behind you losing the holeshot.

By all means go for it after 200 and you have a baseline feel for your sled.

Allen, Sorry for the delay in responding(I hate when my work interferes with my snowmobiling addiction). I can't really say for sure since I wasn't really watching the tach hard but I think something like 7800-8300rpm's. One thing else I noticed, it was impossible for me to punch the throttle on a glazed snow packed road without the back end of sled coming around yet the panther zipped right by
. I really think I need to tweak the control rods but I'm not to sure about the limiter strap.

Is the panther studded?! Sure sounds like it... What are the snow conditions you're racing in?

Hey VMJ, No studs, .75in track, hardpacked trail glazed over from a few days of +32 degree temps with a little fresh snow tossed in. If I were closer to you I'd be over in a heart beat and let ya have at it. I think it's a matter of a little tweaking.
