Hello All
I've been on the 2stroke side for a while, but I sold my SRX last night.
I'm interested in buying an Apex 2006-2007(ish)
I don't know anything about these sleds.
Is there any stuff that I should really watch of for or check when I start lookinf at sleds to buy this weekend?
Thanks

Nothing to worry about, just remember they are a different sled than a SRX to ride and handle.

Congratulations! Your fuel bill will now be cut in half!
I just did this in February. I sold my '02 SRX which was long travelled.
I found a 2007 Apex GT with only 1000km's on it.
-Check for the regular stuff like loose joints, bushings etc.
-I installed a yamaheater lastnight...this is a MUST. Keep in mind they are roughly $200. Rock is a great guy and helped me over the phone. THANKS AGAIN!
-TRY to get an '07 as there a some changes such as better handlebars with the warmer all the way to the end of the hook.
-Mine is a GT with the Ohlins EC shock. It WILL be getting revalved and possibly re sprung. The mono suspension is very good on small stuff but if you cough wrong it bottoms....HARD. Check the pioneer perf website for changes he makes.
There is lots more but I am sure others will chime in. I paid a little more and got a super low mileage one but I am glad I did.
OH....Everyone complains about the stock skis.....I went from stock carbides to shaper bars. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! with 96 studs the stock setup would push but I had zero darting.
Now, the front end has more than enough bite to slide the rear end but yes it darts but NOT as bad as my SRX did so I will not be changing skis. BONUS.
Overall you are making a great choice.

If you use the stock skis get either snow trackers or use dual carbides.
Pilot or Simmons seem to be the skis to change to if you want to change
run the a-arms flat, this helps with ski lift
adjusting the transfer and spring rate is critical.
Hi beams suck.
When looking at sleds look and the upper arm on the mono shock for cracks on the welds.
Find out if they did preventive maintenance. When were the bearings replaced.
Did they do regular oil changes.
Look where the a-arms attach to the bulkhead to make sure they are intact.
Start it and cover both exhaust pipes to see if it will stall out. If not the donuts on the exhaust are blown.
That's a start.

you will like the 4 stroke. i did the same thing back 3 years ago. fuel mileage will be the same as your SRX, not sure what chris189 was referring too, maybe because the older Apex's can use regular fuel. like mentioned above, it will be different but once you figure out to stay on the throttle in the corners or coming to stops (not letting off completely) to avoid the engine breaking you will like it. love the engine breaking in mine now when cornering, hardly ever use the brake. good luck

What I meant is the operating costs without premium fuel AND oil will = A LOT less.....and when you figure out how to ride it and use the momentum in and out of corners there is a big fuel savings.

The book says 91 octane. I only run under if I have to. What is everyone else running. Not trying to hijack the thread!chris189 said:What I meant is the operating costs without premium fuel AND oil will = A LOT less.....and when you figure out how to ride it and use the momentum in and out of corners there is a big fuel savings.

We have almost 35,000 combined miles on 2006-2010 Apex's with 87 octane fuel. 0 issues.

there's no performance gain..in fact there should be a performance loss! and also the money loss!
