Asked my Dealer if it was ok to use Mobil One Oil and if it would affect the starter clutch. He stated it would have no effect on the starter clutch. He also stated to wait till after the sled was off warranty before switching to Mobile One, just encase there was a warranty issue. I cannot see a warranty issue with the oil. As long as it meets thier requirements they have to honor the warranty. I thought I made the right choice in a Dealer but I got this feeling that, if I have a warranty issue they will not be there for me. I will buy another Yamaha sled but I will be looking for a new Dealer. I was very impressed before with the Dealer but as time goes on I feel more and more uneasy. I am one of the silent customers that never complains and just goes away and does business else where.

My dealer has no problem with synthetic oil and niether do 2 yamaha reps that I know . The one said he could not recomend it because yamaha did not sell it but said he would use it in his slled .

dont worry about the off warranty remarks, the important thing is to make sure the engine is fully broken in before switching to synthetic, i would say at least 1500 to 2000 miles.

They would have to prove that the oil caused any engine related problems to void the warranty. The stock Yamaha oil is fine. You'll never wear the engine out before the chassis expires regardless of the oil you use, so why spend more?

Oak Hill.........As long as the oil meets or exceeds the specis of the original oil (and Mobile one does,) Yamaha can not deny a warrantee claim. I'd be suspicious of your dealer, too. On the other hand, your dealer is probably being overly cautious.

This topic of oil comes up a lot. Mobile One, in my opinion, is wonderful oil for automotive applications (I run it in my '98 Corvette & '04 Colorado.) For all my other toys, I run Amsoil 0W-40W. The RX/RS sleds run at much higher rpms than an automobile engine. According to Amsoil, their oil is designed to protect high rpm motors.

Personally, I'd wait till around 1K miles before I switched to synthetic. Because synthetic is so "slippery," you need to make sure the engine is fully broken in. When I changed to Amsoil in my RX1, the idle went up 200 rpms.

Synthetic Oil

All this talk of synthetics is confusing. Yamalube 2S is semi synthetic and the 4S 0W30 is a synthetic blend. Is it or is it not a synthetic? The 2 S smokes and stinks but I don't see any issues with the 4S.

dont try to fix whats not broke....keep stock yamalube engine oil and ur engine will be bulletproof til atleast 15k...by then u'll have a different sled

i feel sorry for all the idiots drivin revs and firecats with that expensive xps oil and apv....that must get spendy at $30 a gallon..

Gosh, and I thought $14 a gallon for the wife's Viper was enough.

yeah we ride with a pack of firecats...gallon of oil is $30 from dealer and if u go and buy it at a gas station....$9.99 a qt...they have 3 firecats...that gets very expensive. just one more reason why i bought a fourstroke

Oil changes at $25 isn't cheap either. I forgot to get the wix part number last time and paid something to the tune of $11 for a filter.

Our local dealer quoted 2 hours to change the oil and filter on a vector. Could that be true? Sounds way out of line to me.

I always use factory oil the first year.
1. It takes that arguement away in the rare event of a warranty issue.
2. You should stay away from full synthetics anyway until you have 2-4 K Mi on the motor. Synthetic oils are not the best for break in and ring seat.

I'd say your dealer is wise and looking out for you. He did say Mobil 1 is fine for later, so it is not that he wants you to keep buying the expensive Yammie 0W 40 semi synthetic.

My first time it took an hour and a quarter and I putzed around with it. The oil filter is right there once you remove the access panel, not like the RX which is hard to get to.
