I have a 05 vector mountain. I have not ridded it yet, but for about a mile in the field. My rattle is not in the clutch, I can hear that. This is one coming from somewhere else. What makes this one weird is that it comes and goes. It is not there cold but after a few minutes of idling it starts rattling instantly, and sometimes it will stop just as quickly. If I shut it off and restart it then the rattle is usually gone for a few seconds and then comes back. sometimes it won't come back for 30 seconds. The throttle just makes the rattle faster. Using my stethoscope I can not pinpoint it. somewhere in the top or rear of engine. Louder on the valve cover bolts than anywhere.

Please help

I am not sure. I do not know what they sound like when they go. This comes and goes like flipping a switch. I have not had snow packed in the tunnel at all.

I have thought of that, but have you had one go bad to tell me what sounds they make? That looks like a chore to replace, but not impossible. I just don't like to throw parts at a problem hoping it will fix it.

Read what ground blizzard posted. http://www.ty4stroke.com/viewtopic.php? ... &start=210

It sounds very similar to what he has reported. You can reach the tensioner with your scope from the right rear of the motor although I don't think you should run it until the tensioner is changed. You'd be taking a big chance on doing significant damage to the valve train.

keep us posted.

I hear you about throwing parts to it. I have not heard one fail yet. I ran my sled with the clutch off to see if I could hear any noise. Couldn't hear anything alarming. So I put my clutch back on and plan on riding this year without swapping the tensioner. Not that this post really helps you with anything.

I have actually replaced my clutch with a cat clutch and it made the clutch rattle very muted. Still there but very quiet. This noise though is not there at all when I first start it. today I tried to hear it and it idled for about 10 minutes without a noise but at the instant I touched the throttle it started. However it seems a bit quieter than before. This sled did sit for a long time before I got it.
