The temp was about 35 degrees and we had about 14inches of fresh power.
I had put 2200 miles on the RX1 so I pretty knew what to expect as far as first ride expectations.
For those who have never rode a 4 stroke Yamaha would think the engine breaking was too much and the fact it won't rev over 10K would be an issue. I can tell you that after about 1000 miles these issues will go pretty much go away. Don't worry about it!
Hand warmers. I had them on high to start off my ride and just like most of the post already stated. I felt the thumb warmers almost immediately and than felt the hand warmers. They only get WARM not hot between the rivets and the hooks were ice cold. Since it was 30 degrees plus I simply didn't need them and turned them off.
A good fix would be to somehow heat the hooks. Obviously I can't comment how good they would be when it is very cold.
I defiantly like the new riding position. I found this thing is easier to crank the bars coming into a corner. Less ski lift then the RX1.
The best part of my day was the fact that the Temp light NEVER came on. I did notice that their was not a lot of excess of heat coming off this machine like the RX1. The new cooling design with the addition of a radiator and larger cooling openings in the side panels seem to help. This issue has plagued me with my RX and the Viper.
One cool thing I noticed when standing up, you can hear the growl of the motor when you hit it coming from the air box. Cool factor of 10!
I rode with my brother in law who had my 97 SX and we dragged it out.
The APEX smoked it. He said he had no chance!
