She was born and bred on 87 octane fuel, that's the beauty of these sleds! Watch the promo DVD from Yammi or just read your owners manual! Kind of nice not having to worry about trying to find 91 octane fuel on the trail just so your 2 smoke won't blow up!! Now that's piece of mind!!

Not very conclusive
I pick up my new XTX tomorrow and would like a definitive answer
I think I will use Shell VPower as it is cleaner for the engine and cooler burning which for the few extra cents only makes sense
I have over 20K on my 600SXR and only ever use 91 and it has never been opened up

Your answer is on Yamaha's FX Nytro intro video from last year. It says 87 octane regular fuel. 5000 kms on mine with good ol regular gas

My dealer said they only run premium whenever possible as less engine deposit, cooler and for a few dollars over the winter it only makes sense

Cooler=less ppower.....my apex always ran 200rpms less with premium
and if you are worried about running cleaner, add some ring free to the fuel a few time a season. also recomended by the owners manual. motor was designed for 87 octane anything above that you are wasting money, and possibly reducing performance. running premium fuel in a low compression (read, stock) motor will not add any life or performance to the motor, and may cost you performance in some cases.
but some people feel better running higher octane so, pump away. ski
