I never took the shock out, but I never ran an M-20 either. It only happened to me when I bottomed the sled out usually when coming off a drift or cornice, and under power. Definitely a bottomed out and potential for track ballooning type situation. It didn't do it often, but made a real ugly sound when it happened. As someone else stated, the ZX-2 comes with the 8" rear wheels. This raises up the back of the track right from the start by 1".
Unless you plan on running studs, I think it would pretty much be a non-issue for you. I remembered it happening more when I ran my 2" paddle in the 144" configuration.
I couldn't tell you the geometry differences between a stock, ZX-2, or M-20 suspension without having access to all three and doing some measurements.
