Thinking about..........jumping ship

Sure looks like it! That thing just exploded.

You weren't, by chance, on trail 8N just past Prairie Rapids when it happened?

I will be pretty impressed if these 900T's will take an extra 50-60HP without consequence. It will take a couple seasons to find out. It seems most Sidewinder issues didn't pop up until season 2.

We we coming back on 8E from Willow Lake about 2/3 of way from Bucksnort to Lake Nokomis

Was riding with my bro tonight and he was riding his 900t behind me and all I hear on my headset is, “I think I am on fire, you better come here quick!”

Smoke was pouring out of his hood with holes blown through the top and on back side of cowling. Blew the chain case right apart!

Holy crap! That is a catastrophic failure! I was just talking about this on DT, I had mentioned how well the 900t chain and gears will do not being HYVO stuff(I assume). But damn, this is a major fail. I wonder what went wrong here? The doo cases are quite well engineered from all the yrs Ive had them. And this was stock eh, so likely just some issue with assembly or something.

I do wonder how well the drivetrain will hold up with a 205 tune. Maybe this is why BRP has made it pretty hard to get over the 200'ish' hp range with a tune, as the drivetrain would all become short lived. I do hear their belt life/temps are very good for stock and the few tuned guys out there as of now.

It looks like the chain broke. All the gears are still there like they should be. Maybe a loose chain? I have adjusted mine twice in 2000 miles and it only takes 10 seconds.

Looks like the chain snapped. He had tightened it after 500 miles and has just over 1,000

At least this happened last night as our trip starts today. Dealer gave him a loaner for our trip this morning, so that was good.

I think since its rated at a simple 150hp a normal chain comes on the 900t(not hyvo). Not sure what size the links are though, It could be an issue for guys who add tunes down the road? Hard to know. Time will tell i guess when guys with tunes get miles on them. So far I believe there have been few to no issues on the 900t's tuned.

This is first ive seen with chain going down....likely a flaw in the chain maybe?

Could be a bad chain Dan. None of these sleds are immune to issues. Last year my wife's 2016 1200 went down on our trip to Qc. One of the bolts that hold the secondary rollers in place snapped and got caught in the belt and took out all 4 clutch sheaves. Good thing it was still under warranty as both clutches and the belt were replaced by Doo.

I just like my chances better on anything not designed by Cat.

On my last day of our UP trip my buddy was riding his backup sled (2011 Apex XTX) and it puked all the motor oil out and fortunately Yamaha has a fail safe and spit out a code and shutdown. Big pile of oil on the trail and we were 20 miles away from where we were staying. Yes unheard of on an Apex, sled only has 3,000 miles on it!

Fortunately a good Samaritan was riding solo on a new 900 Ace and he stopped. He gave us his brand new tow rope. I towed him back to the house and we called it a week and pulled it into the trailer. I had to laugh when I pulled it past Pat's Motorsport,s a large group of Polaris riders were all pointing and laughing.......LOOK A YAMAHA DOWN!!

I had a feeling it wasn't the sleds fault and sure enough the oil filter was cracked. It was a K & N filter and it cracked by the nut. Turns out there was a recall on some made in 2016. What luck!!
