Put on some miles in the UP of Michigan this weekend. Rode 240 miles on Friday and 110 on Saturday. I experienced some decent riding to excellent. Unfortunately my 800 is still not impressing me at all. I did a compression test and found 145 psi on both cylinders and just installed a DJ clutch kit.Sled is lightly studded and does not spin. The kit was an improvement but nothing to right home about. Sled does not pull very hard. Power band is 8100 clicker #3 and only time I feel any good acceleration is 50-80mph. Which is pretty fast for trail riding I may gear down but I don't think this machine has that much top end anyway. Belt is adjusted properly with a 377 belt and proper belt deflection.Sled runs reliably.Rider weight 175 lbs. I jumped on my dads Yamaha viper 700 and it pulls for days and my brother just bought a 600 RS that has been re-geared that runs excellent. This is a 2005 800 HO mxz. I am going for another ride tomorrow, to compare I am going to get my uncle and ride is 2002 zr Arctic cat 800 to compare. I am also thinking about just selling the sled and buying either a Yamaha Nytro or ski doo 1200 xr.
I would like to hear some opinions on modifications to my 800 HO and some impressions of people who have actually had some seat time on a 4 stroke Yamaha or Ski doo 1200.
Thanks .

Get a Yammie..the 2-smokes only have what a yammie has when its in the power band..where as the yammie is from the word go..and you just turn the key..besides..ever heard the sound one of those 1200s make from BPR ..lol..go for the yammie..I think 2-smokes belong in the mountains..
Bumpy trails = nytro
Cruising groomed = 1200
Resale = any yamaha
Boondocking and playing in the deep = nytro xtx
Holeshot/response = nytro
Topend = still to be determined
Fuel mileage = toss up with more range to the 1200
Looks = personal preference
Weight = is wash with the tanks full
Warmth = 1200
Sound = nytro
IMHO I love 4 strokes

I came from a 2003 Summit 800 H.O, and a 2006 RMK 700. I was very pleased with both sleds.. except reliability.
I put 3000 KMs on my Nytro last year, and am planning to ride even more this year. You just got to love em..
There are some minor things i miss about the RMK, but nothing compared to what i gained with switching to a Yamaha.
Turn the key reliabilty.. Its priceless.

I should also add
Out of the box = 1200
The nytro need alot of fixing from the showroom but great after you do all the fixes... Rise this, change this and throw these away ect. lol

well I really love rider forward machines. I like sitting on the tank but I have heard a lot of issues with nytro steering and handling. I am thinking about either a Attak, or older nytro pre 2006. I really want a 2008 or newer nytro xtx. Not sure my budget is about $7000 .
I am going to dump my rev 800 and ride one of my friends apex's.
His family buys new yamaha's every year it seems.
I love the old sxviper, it has awesome power but I have to get a 4stroke because I like having estart and reverse.
I just dont think 2 cylinder 2 stroke sleds have a broad enough power band for me.

Dont waste your money on the 2006-07 RS Nytro these are just over sprung vectors if you are looking for strong mid to top end pull the RX1/Apex is what you,ll want the newer Nytro are probably strongest of any out of the hole to the top of the mid range but still not a top end racer these are just my opinions of owning a RS Nytro and riding the other two

I bought an 03 rev 800 back in oct of 10. Rode it around the yard on grass once then put it away till snow..... Which didnt really come till jan. At which point I rode it for 300 miles and sold it and bought my 06 apex for $4100. If I can swing it I want to get an 09 nytro and give my wife the apex....And power.. its there all day long.
