az99 said:Mainerider- Since you mentioned fighting with the factory and you are close to Canada, are you aware your warranty is not honored when riding in Canada ? I did not know it until I needed it. I had to pay for repairs then try to collect from Yamaha U.S.A. which of course found some loop holes why they would not pay. Seriously consider a Renegade.
I didn't know that they would not warranty in Canada. My most recent trashing of the wheels was done in Quebec but I was able to complete my trip and I brought the sled home to NH to have the work done.
No need for everyone to get testy here. Just looking for a little real life experience with these rides. Seems to have started a good debate.
I appreciate the input.

Mainerider- I was not trying to start anything either(maybe a little ).I have been snowmobiling for 35 years and have owned all the big 4 and Bolens. I currently have a Doo Rev 600 SDI and a Vector. I am not brand loyal like many of the other guys on here. I got the Vector because it was supposed to be a fantastic sled. It has a fantastic motor. I would love to put the motor in a Doo ZX chassis add FI , then we would have a trail cruiser. Rumor has it that Doo is again entering the 4 stroke market. I hope so, as it will force Yamaha to fix some problems in the RS or replace it and fix there warranty in Canada issue. Ski-Doo management in Valcourt is tired of seeing group after group of touring riders going past the plant on Yamahas.

I just don't think I can go back to $30 gallons of oil, poor gas mileage, and two-stroke smoke now that I've ridden a nice running 4 stroke. If they built a decent rear skid for the Venture, I'd probably try to get 20k out of it. I was a Polaris guy for 20 years and only went to Yami for the 4 stroke. Tough to turn back now.

I put anti wear pad and drilled wholes in my hyfax and put extra wheels and a wheel extender kit only as mods to improove what I already have..now I should get about double the hyfax wear 6000 miles I'm thinking and my sled has alot less rolling resistance for more top-end and quicker to it! I think 3000 miles on my stock everything is damn good for as bad as the trails were last year and this year even worst ...everything I did was a mod because I enjoy doing them only. Soon to come will be a digital thermostat ..not that its needed but I want the improovement !az99 said:May be you guys are lucky or you can not see the the slider wear thru your blue glasses. If I am the only one with these wear problems, why are there so many threads about SLP wear pads, drilling track holes and fully clipped tracks ? I still say he would be wasting his money trading his Venture on a Vector or Rage. His hyfax problems will not be resolved. He would be better off just putting a fully clipped 1" track and adding wheels to his Venture. The RS sleds are hyfax eaters when groomed trail riding it has been documented here many, many times.

Another thing dont tell me about brand loyal ..I AM NOT! Thats why I wear all black outfits so if someday I changed... I used to own 4 ski-doos and I had enough problems with them to almost consider getting out of snowmobiling TOTALLY till I read about the RS series sleds and NOW I will probally never get out, its totally changed my attitude about snowmobiling ...I now ride with alot more confidence that my engine is not going to blow up or have a crank bearing fail, rings or a piston get a hole burned thru it foul plugs etc and no more 2smoke oil at $35 a gal I will never go back to a two stroke. And I can enjoy doing these mods because I know this sled is going to be running ALONG LONG TIME :ORC

Well my Vector has no problems with this so called track howl and as far as the hyfax go, my stock ones went 1500 miles and the wear was only at half when I decided to changed them because I wanted blue ones. Sorry to hear you got a lemon of sorts there az99 or maybe your dealer set it up all wrong. No one I know from my dealer has any hyfax wear problems with the RS. As far as getting a Rage or a Vector I would lean to the shorty if you mainly stick to trails unless the trails where you ride are mostly beat up by 121 inchers then get the rage to span the bumps.

Not to add fuel to the fire but you guys have some really wrong or outdated views of the new SDI 2 strokes. My 600 SDI gets slightly better(1-2MPG) fuel mileage than my Vector and gets 200 miles to a quart of semi-syn oil that is $19.00 a gallon. Any smoke while riding is not noticeable. It uses 87 octante gas and requires no oil and filter changes. Just the facts. I am not trying to sell anyone a 2 stroke, I would never want one for touring either, but they are no where near as bad as you guys are saying.

Well I am yet to see any of my riding partner's 600 SDI's beat me at the pump and I'm only getting 16-17 mpg with my vector. And as far as oil and filters being changed the oil is recommended every 2000 miles and the filters at 12,000 so those are really a non issue. I have no complaints about Ski Doo they would be my second choice but they do still make your suit stink. And even if you don't see it burning are still a 100% oil loss system.

VectorFreak- You must be right as I see you are an Expert. Everyone else on all the other threads that said the SDI got equal or slightly better mileage must be stupid like me and can't figure mileage.
Calculate the cost of oil changes that are a "non issue" and even forget the charge to change it and see what the cost of riding 2000 miles is.
As for the stinky clothes with the SDI, you are just plain FOS!
By you nick name I understand your opinions. Yamaha loves you.

Well let me see i must have been dreaming when my riding partner kept commenting on how he likes to spend $5 more on every fill up and who brings their machine in for an oil change???? Where do you think the front exhaust on the DOO dumps the oil, in your lap, and what I am seeing when those DOO's are cold and that brown cloud from the sythentic blend is clouding up the air?? You must have the cleanest burning and best gas mileage doo out there. Or maybe you just drive it slow and thats why your mileage is so high. I'm not ripping on the DOO's but 2 stroke technology is a thing of the past even if they are EPA compliant till 2011. All the outboards are going this route not to mention looks like Polaris and Cat have already jumped on the bandwagon. If DOO wants to remain at the top of the chain they better start at the drawing board and get crunching because that 'ol REV chassis is only going to wow people for so long. After thinkng about it how did a post labled time to trade rage or vector even get the discussion of a 600 SDI DOO. I should have stopped there. Sorry original poster didn't mean to vent about those ugly canuck sleds.

That was my point too Vectorfreak the question was should I buy a Vector or a Rage. Seems like maybe az99 might be alittle out of line or out of place?? :ORC He really should be on his Doo-talk forum and quit trying to cause problems here...stick to the topics and the questions answer them to your best without trying to sell his Doo and stir the pot up on here because it wont fly just like if I were to go on Doo-talk and try to sell Yamaha to them it wouldn't be excepted and I and most other have enough sense to know better :ORC I think he is headed in the wrong direction and needs a >>>BIG :ORC Or he might be booted from this site IMO.RSVECTORFREAK said:Well let me see i must have been dreaming when my riding partner kept commenting on how he likes to spend $5 more on every fill up and who brings their machine in for an oil change???? Its a 2 "smoke" dude. Yes, it does smell. But 2 strokes "doo" have their place, I have a nice XLT triple that would make a good planter.az99 said:As for the stinky clothes with the SDI, you are just plain FOS!

Booted from the site for what??...getting people to think a little bit? Last I saw owning a Yamaha was not a pre-requisite for posting on this site. I didn't see him write anything offensive to anyone, that is unless all you want to hear is "how great Yamaha's are!"
Another shining example of how this site is viewed in the internet world as nothing but a Yami Lovefest.
Flame away!
FWIW = my friends 05 Doo Renegade 600SDI consistently beat me by 1-3 mpg over about 1000 miles of riding last year.

Questioning someone's intelligence and saying they're FOS is not offensive??? Also, how did this thread end up in an argument about the SDI? It's a nice sled, but doesn't have anything to do with the topic or discussion. Who cares whether it burns clean or what mileage it gets when someone is trying to decide between a Rage or Vector?
Sorry, tried to stay out of it and even deleted my post yesterday, but I get real tired of reading this redundancy over and over again about whether we should like the SDI or not and whether we wear blue underwear. Give it a break and let's send this to the dog pile.

I have 6300 km on my RS Venture .I am still on my second set of sliders which I will put an other 200 km and then change them . The set I have on there are the originals . I put them back on when I realized that there was lots of wear left .What I do now is run them untill I can slid a 10 mm open end wrench over any spot on the side . They wear down fast at first and then seem to last for ever . My sliders last way longer than my buddies Rev .
