maybe there is a reason for the 2 different posts..i thought the mountain has a rad fan...and the shortie doesnt..maybe thats why 2 diff posts?maybe silentsno could check..

Last time I checked, I saw no Fan in my MTX. Unless I totally spaced somethign out, I seen none. Its got a nicely designed shroud that "cups" the air into the radiator.

The fan was on the backside of the radiator.... Does the MTX have a rear heat exchanger or extended front heat exchanger??? I'm wondering if that is why it wouldn't have a fan! I'm assuming you mountain guys don't see much "low snow" condtions in the mountains!!! LOL!

I'll triple check tonight about the fan and heat exchangers, as far as low snow conditions, thats what we just always ride higher! :)

They is always powder fields to find in the mountains, just gotta look.

Sorry for the ignorance but did the Aex have a radiator like the FX Nytro has?

Oh and YES the FX Nytro RTX has a fan behind radiator. 100% sure!

I was waiting for you to chime in!!! ;)!

I forgot to post about having the fan earlier sorry!

I think I might just start it up and let it run until the fan comes on and shoot the radiator with the temperature gun to see at what temp the fan actually comes on!

On page 9 of the owners manual "Enigine overheating prevention system" It states; This model is equipped with a system, which prevents overheating when the engine is idling.
When the engine has been idlinf for 3 minutes or longer and the cooling temperature has risen above 100C (212F), the engine automaticly stops to prevent overheating.
Note: The engine can be started after it stops. (yes I still read these darn things!! BUT I skip over the 'How to ride section'!) I do make my daughters read it cover to cover!

My question is what about when you are running? Is there a temperature shut down feature then?

from pics ive seen the mtx has a front exchanger, long tube...i just wasnt sure about the fan

Right footwell there was a small rad w/ a fan on the apex.

Ok I've been asked about track size (lug height) I feel the if you were to stay with the stock drivers there is only about 1/4" between the heat exchanger protectors and the tip of the stock 1.25" track. Once these are removed I feel a 1.75" track will clear even the next tight spot that is where the exchanger/tunnel/bulkhead all meet.
Here are some pic showing area of how tight the track and exchanger protectors is.

Well, sure enough there is a fan behind the rad. on the MTX. I was wrong, but glad I did relook at it. It is quite small, and I do see how I missed it at first.

One thing I found interestng is to look at the Yamaha site and you will see the drive axle is locked into place due to the castings. The benefit is that the drive axle can be loosened and dropped out of the bulk head. The bad part is the slot is formed into the casting making a drop and roll a thing of the past. Because the chaincase half is cast onto the other side, a guy will need to shave down the tunnel protectors to gain more room for a deeper track (at least on the 121 models).

So how would you guys recommend altering the tunnel protectors ? I'm putting a 1.5 Intense track on my RTX before too long, and by the looks of things, those tunnel protectors are tacked on pretty good. I was hoping they would only be riveted on... :o| I take it there's not a full length of them under the rest of the tunnel too ?!?
