To buy or not to buy

Guys need some advise here... I ran my supercharged attak at 12psi last winter on c16 race gas and sometimes avgas but this year i have meth and plan to run pump... Trying to make up my mind if i'm going to purchase a knock box or not :dunno: is this a good idea or just a waste of money since i'm only going to be on low boost
 
Forgot to add i'm running stock motor

First, you were running tooo much octane for 12 psi on a stock motor.
You should be running 100 octane Unleaded.

Retorque of the head studs is Highly recommended.

What Lower boost number are you gong to run,

Use the boost octane calculator in the sticky to select the right fuel.

Or you can install 3 head gaskets and run 11 psi on pump only.

Methanol kit will add another layer of maintenence, besides the fact that there is little to no room for one, I don't believe that currently available systems are reliable enough to risk a $3-4000.00 engine.
 
When i ran the c16 i mixed it with 91 except race days i ran it stright and i ran the av stright always. I had no idea that c16 was too much is it a problem or do you mean waste of money to use it when there is no need. I have faith in the meth and i really don't want to lower compression i was just wondering if i should add the knock box along with the meth kit.
 
I don't trust the knock box, if it came calibrated maybe, however when you are the one responsible to set the knock sensetivity it goes right out the window.
 
Only my opinion but the the knock box is like trying to chase the horse with the cart, it is already knocking
 
Dont rely on the knock sensor, that may cost you more so than a meth kit, if you match the fuel to your boost thats where the most effeincy or power will be. I have meth on my apex I have a Labonte kit on my 08 Cummins and I will be adding it to my Jag sno-pro once I have seat time on it, I disagree with Ted on the meth kits, They work as well as the rest of my components I have been using

Too much octane slows the burn and reduces power.

I also would not trust a Knock box because there is no way to know what the real Knock Threashold is for your engine.

Set it too sensitive and it is on all the time, set it to weak and it may never come on.

I have a pile of failed meth pumps in the back room, one of which took an engine with it, for what that is worth.

Define Reliable.
 
More reliable than a log manifold Hows that for a start or mine worked for 1000 miles so far, and still going strong.
 
Thanks for the tip on the octane ;)! i'm gonna give the meth a try everything fails once in a while i look at it the same as lube injection in a 2stroke really and besides i can always go by the odds seeing your the only one so far with something bad to say about it.
 
Hey Cory Burt, install a pressure sensor on the outlet of the pump and wire it to a LED, if the LED goes on you know the pump is not working and you have to stop immedieatly to save your engine.

Coolingmist.com has some nice sensors and other fail safe devices. Set it up so you dont ruin a $4000 engine and meth can work.
 
Yea i had Meth on my sled it was ok...(but) I had two fail safe boxes fail. I did not trust the Meth too much after that.....
