I know virtually nothing about these tracks, but am interested in them. What was it about the Ice Claw that made it junk in your opinion? Lack of hookup? Longer stop distances, etc?
very poor hook-up in my opinion. Like I stated my other track that I had on my polaris hooked much better and was unstudded, The ice claw would slide all over, especialy around corners. I had no confidence in that track. It did seem to do ok on icy hills compared to my buddies un-studded track, but other then that I HATED IT.
I have no opinion on the ICE RIPPER, but from what I hear that is a much better track

Piks won't last to long on a trail...mostly for ice racing. Unless you are just dragracing use trail studs.

I ran my '06 without studs the 1st season I had it. I did run studs last season (2nd year of ownership). I'm a trail rider &:
Pros:
Better launches out of the hole, tracks straighter down railbeds & lakes, braking is way more predictable, cornering is way more predictable, trail riding in general is a lot more fun, the studs make the sled more predictable so you can push it harder.
Cons:
Expense.
Studs are well worth the expense IMO.
