As always if there is a thread that deals with the quesitons please post the link.
1. What the the approved location to install a temp unit??? Ive heard people say this is the wrong place.
2. Other then being green antifreeze and adding water wetter, whats the best way to burp a system?

As Sleddog said, or another thread to follow, if you want to use the horizontal coolant tube:

Yeah, that was the question that I had too on a post that I started. I don't know if it is different on pre 2011 Apex's, but on the '12 I got, if I put the splice on top of the head, it will force the T-stat housing into the side body mount of the sled causing it to bulge, so I'm going to have to opt fo the veritcal hose, by the factory temperature sensor.
BTW I'm in Utica(Marcy), NY where are you at?

The sender tee from Ulmer Racing does push the thermostat housing out very slightly when installed in the horizontal hose as shown on my '07.
This is where Ulmer recommends that it be installed but now I am second guessing if the vertical hose is not a better location.
Both hoses are on the engine side of the thermostat and have the same temperature coolant running through them.

Thanks guys for confirming that there are two different places to install the temp gauge and both seem to be acceptable places to go with. Im glad to hear other people have installed it in the same place I did LOL. That means I dont have to move it.
Hey 02viper. I live right in Turin. Less then 200yds from the trail.

and to "burp" the system.. do to the rear crossover tube, remove rear lower plastic off sled... there is a 10mm nut thru the back of tunnel.. burp screw. raise back of sled. and let air out.

In regards to installing the sender tee on my 07 Attak, on the horizontal hose on top of the engine, if I remember right, I cut an 1/8 or so off each side of the one inch diameter tee for a perfect fit. Four years later, no problems.

This is the better line if you want a accurate temp reading...

Tom,
Which line is more accurate and why? It looks to me like both of these lines are on the same (engine) side of the thermostat.
With the T-stat closed when the engine is warming up I would think that the full flow of engine coolant would be through these two hoses at an equal temperature.
Perhaps when the engine gets hotter and the thermostat opens allowing flow through the radiator and heat exchangers then one of these two hoses has better flow and therefore is a more accurate indicator of the true engine temperature?

I was told the top hose at the head would be the better spot.... and if you think about it, heat rises so the hottest water will be coming out the top of the motor not out of the bottom up that long hose outside the motor.

If I'm reading the cooling diagram correctly the the water flow is from the cyl head past the thermostat then down the vertical hose then T's at the front cooler outlet and to the inlet to the water pump then back to the engine. By the looks of it the only place that water comes out of the motor is at the top. The hose going toward the front is coming from the oil cooler so will change the reading coming from the cyl head if the sending unit is put in the vertical hose because it is a mix from the cyl head and the oil cooler. The only way to get actual engine temp is on the horizontal hose from the cyl head. If u look in the service manual it much easier to follow the water flow than from the parts fiche diagram. That's the way I see it and will put my sender in the hose coming from the cyl head.

Perfect explanation! Thank you!
