I'm wondering if I can switch to synthetic oil. I've been running the Yamalube for the last two seasons but I only have 2200 miles on the sled. Would you guys switch?

2200 miles is perfect. Everyting should be seated by now. I have 2250 miles and will switch for next season too.

0-30 or 5-30 Don't go over 30 weight on the top side unless you want to loose HP. Been there, done that.

AMSOIL Formula 4-Stroke® PowerSports Synthetic Motor Oil (AFF) is specially formulated for ATVs, UTVs, snowmobiles and other power sports applications. Its broad viscosity range and wax-free formulation make it excellent for use in both hot and cold temperature extremes. As an SAE 40 weight motor oil, AMSOIL AFF provides outstanding protection for hot operating engines, while its 0W rating and -60°F pour point ensure easy cranking, excellent cold weather starting and quick post-startup protection. Formula 4-Stroke® Power Sports is an extreme temperature lubricant that provides outstanding performance in high performance, recreational or work/utility engines.

On my JetSki I went over at 40 hours.

I don't know what my hours are on a sled, but how about 950 miles? As I'm usually cruising tight trails, I wouldn't doubt that this is about the same amount of running time as my speed is 20-25 in the corners and maybe an average cruise of 40 on the hills and straights. I should add that as I've really only been riding a couple of season, I've yet to exceed 85 and haven't pulled real hard too often. I wasn't as easy on the water as I am on the snow, so how I've treated the cylinders and rings probably can't compare. Then again, I do believe that most wear is in the first 1-10 hours.

Just can't decide if I should run one more season (+/- 700) before the switch?

BTW, I'm thinking 5W30 syn as I hear it's better to minimize the spread between the hot and cold numbers (compared to 0W40).

Mike, what weight do you run for oil and why?

I changed oil once on my RX-1 to a 5-40, and went out to ride with my ridding buddy and his 800 Ski-Doo that I could always beat. I thought it felt very sluggish and lame in the seat of the pants. Sure enough, I could not beat him now. Came home, (Scott waited while I change oil out) the same day, dropped the 5-40 out and replaced it with the same brand oil, but changed viscosity to 5-30 and it came back to the normal feel and I could beat his ski-doo again. It wasn't just a one race thing, we ran numerous times to verify it. Neither one of us could believe it had such a huge effect on the performance, but it did. From that point on I have never run higher than the recommended viscosity again. I stick with 30 for the top # on the trail sleds. Tried 20 once, but thought the cam and bucket wear to be above normal. Parts shined up a bit too much using the 20 in a trail sled.

Mike, i have 1950 on on my Vector, do u think this is to soon to switch?

No that is fine. I'll change anywhere around 2000 miles to synthetic. Some do it right away. I like to break them in longer.
