If you want to make it back home every time get a RX1, IT WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN, on one ride last year my brothers f-7 broke down 3 times nothing major, wheels ,exploding belts , oil lines ,but it seems like its all ways somthing. also it depends alot on how you ride they are very differnt sleds, for me its a no brainer i love to ride not wrench. get the RX 1 ,then get a ecp kit and your done.

my new RX1ER, my first yamaha
Hello from Nova Scotia Canada!!
This web site is amazing in terms of the information available, debate and spirit of the comments offered! - reminds me of the great fraternity amongst us Mopar brothers here up north.
I am an absolute newbie to Yamaha and readily admit it! I have driven Skidoo for the last 30 years - most recently a Rich Daly built 99 FIII 800 triple \ triple which I spring-ordered new and shipped the engine down to Rich \ Rob for their magic touch. Absolutely bullet proof 180hp for 9600km until a little mixup with the jetting on a -25C day century shot on the rail line took out the mag side cylinder!
I had been interested in the RX since its release but like many were awaiting the new rear skid. I ordered my blue ER with a Yamaha skidplate, running board supports and 144 Woodys 1.325 gold digger studs and it's in the garage awaiting snow ( which it is doing out today as I type this! ).
Please indulge a Yamaha neophyte for asking the following questions as I know a lot of this info is on the site in bits and pieces but I was hoping for a tried and true recipe of sorts!!
What are the best performance upgrades in terms of engine / clutch pieces (staying normally aspirated for now) that are most proven and reliable? I certainly have read the issues re ECP intake and Simons CPR kit - is that the best first step?
I generally run with the usual big dogs ( zr900, f7,xc800,mxz800 and one new mach Z if it ever comes!) and would like to continue to run with the pack on the trail and lake.
For interest sake I only live 80 km from Dalton Industries and have met Dale Toole and some of his crew - having run with them ( Dale runs a wicked 800 ZRT ) on the lake many times.
As far as I'm aware they don't offer a kit per se - you need to know what you are doing to select the appropriate pieces and I simply don't. My TRA knowledge gleaned from Daly is'nt going to help with this entirely new animal!
Dalton will sell you the pieces directly but are not in the business of doing the tuning (one of their guys does run an RX1 and they have clutched a Bender Turbo RX1 up here - I have seen this machine on the same dyno-mite clutch dyno at Fundy Powersports where I had my FIII tuned make 227hp on 8lbs of boost on 50/50 blend - it is untouchable on the lake and leaves us like we hit the kill switch!!)
I appreciate any comments you might have and look forward to continuing to learn from your experience and expertise.
Thanks,
Peter

To run with the sleds you just mentioned get your self a ecp kit with heavy hitters, just came back from running those exact bunch of sleds in the grass and the only sleds that beat me were a heavily modifed zr 800 and a780 viper but they were real close races sled length+.
